According to MASN.com, Orioles pitcher Brad Bergesen, who saw his season end in early July because of a shin bruise, is expected to begin a running program in two weeks.
Bergesen was having a fine rookie season, going 7-5 with a 3.43 ERA before a Billy Butler line drive sent him to the 60-day DL. He expects to be running pain-free by mid-November and, barring any setbacks, will be ready for the start of spring training. Assuming he is healthy he may be worth a flier in the late rounds of next year's fantasy draft or could be a solid target for keeper leagues.
Brad Bergesen has been transferred to the 60-day DL by the Orioles, according to TSN.
It was previously reported that Bergesen will be shut down for the remainder of the season. He is recovering from a left leg contusion, and would not be ready to return until the final week.
The Orioles indicated that Brad Bergesen is finished for 2009, according to MLBblogs.com.
He has been recovering from a bruised left shin, and would not be ready to return until the final week of the season. Bergesen can now rest and gear up for next year.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles organization feels that Brad Bergesen (bruised shin) may not pitch again this season.
Bergesen's throwing program got delayed and the O's are running out of time left in the season for him to get back to the rotation. He's been on the DL since July 31st and was a nice surprise for the club with a 7-5 record and 3.43 ERA before going down.
According to MLB.com, injured Orioles' starter Brad Bergesen is doing exercises in Sarasota, Florida but has not started a throwing program. Bergesen is rehabbing a left shin contusion suffered two weeks ago.
It can't be a good sign that Bergesen isn't throwing yet, but with a contusion he shouldn't have to miss much more time. He has already been out for longer than expected, but we still believe he will be back in the rotation within the next few weeks.
Brad Bergesen threw off flat ground Monday, and is still experiencing discomfort in his ailing left shin, according to MASN Sports. He said, "I threw real light today and it felt pretty awkward, just because of landing on it. Hopefully it will feel better tomorrow and we can work some things out. But I have no idea when I will be able to go."
He is hopeful of returning to the mound later in the week, and could be headed for a short rehab assignment before getting the green light to come off the DL. He is first eligible to be activated Saturday, but that does not seem likely as of now.
The Orioles confirmed that Brad Bergesen does not have a fracture in his left shin/leg. He was placed on the DL on Friday. "The good news is it's not broken. There is no fracture, there is nothing there. But he is going to be out," manager Trembley explains to the Baltimore Sun. "We're very fortunate we're only losing him for a short time, not a season-ending injury."
Bergesen, 23, has been surprisingly solid during his rookie season, and it's too bad that his run has been cut short. His lack of strikeouts hinders his fantasy value, and that will probably always be the case.
According to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse, the Orioles have placed Brad Bergesen on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised leg.
This is unfortunate as Bergesen looked sharp before taking a Billy Butler line drive off his leg in Thursday's game. The O's are activating Chris Ray from the DL and recalling Kam Mickolio from Triple-A to fill the spots left by Bergesen and George Sherrill (traded to the Dodgers).
Brad Bergesen pitched seven sharp innings on Thursday, allowing just one run while fanning six, but had to leave after being hit by a Billy Butler line drive.
It made a "sickening thud," but X-rays were apparently negative, according to MASN. He is considered day-to-day, and could possibly make his next start.
Brad Bergesen gave up three earned runs on nine hits over six innings in Friday's 3-1 loss at Boston. He had three walks and five strikeouts.
Bergesen was dealt a loss, but the rookie should remain active in AL-only leagues. He allowed two or less earned runs in four of his last six starts.
Brad Bergesen gave up four runs (two earned) on 10 hits over six innings in Saturday's 4-3 loss at Chicago. He had two walks and one strikeout.
Bergesen held a solid 2.61 ERA over three starts in July heading into today's disappointing loss, and the rookie is worth keeping active in AL-only leagues.
Brad Bergesen picked up his sixth win of the season with a 4-2 victory over the Blue Jays. The rookies held Toronto hitters to just two runs on seven hits and two walks over 6.2 innings.
The promising youngster is now 6-3 on the season and has his ERA down to 3.54. He now has four straight quality starts and is making a strong case for rookie of the year honors.
Brad Bergesen gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits over six innings in Monday's 5-0 loss at Seattle. He issued four walks with four strikeouts.
The rookie had a tough outing tonight, but has been pitching well as of late, as he only allowed one earned run in each of his previous two starts. Bergesen should remain active in fantasy leagues for his next turn in the Orioles' rotation.
Brad Bergesen pitched eight effective innings on Wednesday, striking out six, walking none and surrendering only one run, but took a no-decision as the Orioles bullpen blew it, and Baltimore fell 6-5 to Boston in 11 innings.
Bergesen has been very effective for the Orioles this season, going 5-2 with a 3.53 ERA in 91.2 innings pitched. He is a solid option in almost every format.
Brad Bergesen was in control from the hill in Friday's 11-1 win over the Nationals at Camden Yards, as he only issued one earned run on four hits over six innings. He had two walks and five strikeouts.
Bergesen improves to 5-2, and trims his ERA to 3.76. He is now 3-0 over five starts in June, and the rookie has been among the Orioles' best hurlers. Keep him active in AL-only leagues.
Brad Bergesen did not factor into the decision on Saturday as the Orioles beat the Phillies by a score of 6-5. Bergesen went 6.1 innings and allowed four runs on six hits while striking out two.
Bergesen wasn't bad tonight, but he did nothing to overly impress in his no decison. Bergesen is an average fantasy pitcher, and is probably only useful in AL-only formats.
Brad Bergesen earned a complete game victory as the Orioles throttled the Braves 11-2 on Sunday. The 23-year-old gave up two runs on two solo home runs, but only struck out three in the game. The rookie improved his record to 4-2.
Bergesen does not pile up a lot of strikeouts, but he does throw a lot of innings. In his last four starts, he has thrown 32 inning and struck out 15. He has a bright future ahead of him and is a solid option in AL-only formats.
Brad Bergesen was dominant in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Seattle at Camden Yards, as he only allowed five hits over eight scoreless innings. He did not issue any walks and fired six strikeouts.
He has not taken a loss over his last four starts, and the rookie is worth targeting in AL-only leagues following tonight's strong performance.
Brad Bergesen had a fine start on Friday, allowing just two runs on seven hits and no walks over eight innings. He struck out three and improved to 2-2 on the season as the Orioles stomped the Tigers 7-2.
Bergesen has had only two quality starts this season and should't be considered outside of AL-only leagues. Friday's outing was the first time he had gone more than 6.1 innings this season.
Brad Bergesen did not factor into the decision on Sunday in the Orioles 8-5 loss to the Nationals. Bergesen went 5.2 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out two.
Another outing for Bergesen that wasn't terrible, but wasn't great either. It seems as if this is what you can expect from him at this point, which means he is an AL-only option at best.
Brad Bergesen took the loss on Tuesday as the Orioles fell to the Yankees 9-1. Bergesen went 6.1 innings and allowed four runs on three hits while walking four and striking out two.
Bergesen wasn't bad tonight, but he did get himself into some trouble by walking four. He only gave up three hits, which is pretty impressive, but the walks hurt him tonight. He has been inconsistent so far this season, and it will probably be awhile before he makes a solid fantasy impact.
Brad Bergesen was saddled with his first loss on Wednesday as the Orioles fell to the Rays 8-6. Bergesen lasted 5.2 innings and surrendered four runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out three.
Bergesen hasn't done much since his first start, and he is an iffy play in AL-only leagues at this point. He has some potential, but right now it might be best to stay away until he proves he can be consistent.
Brad Bergesen got roughed up in his second career start on Sunday, lasting only four innings while allowing five runs on ten hits with one walk and three strikeouts. He is 1-0 on the year in two starts.
Bergesen was very good in his first start, but not so much today. He gave up ten hits in just four innings against a solid Rangers' lineup, but he is a young pitcher so he will have days like this. He is talented, and may be worth picking up with the understanding that there will be days like this mixed in.
Brad Bergesen got the win in his major league debut as the Orioles beat the White Sox 10-3 on Tuesday. Only one of his three runs allowed was earned and he gave up just four hits and two walks while striking out four in 5.2 innings of work.
Bergesen is here to stay according to his manager, Dave Trembley. After tonight's performance, it seems like he is worth taking a flyer on. He was able to keep the ball in the park despite pitching against a powerful lineup in a small park.
Updating a previous report, manager Dave Trembley says Brad Bergesen's turn in the rotation is not a one-time deal, but that he is fully entrenched as a member of their starting rotation, according to the Baltimore Sun. He will start against the White Sox on Tuesday.
The Orioles have some serious pitching talent in the minor leagues and Bergesen is the most major league ready. He is worth a look in most formats but he's not a guarantee to stay on fantasy rosters throughout the summer.
The Orioles have officially announced that they are recalling Brad Bergesen to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox, reports the Baltimore Sun. Bergesen is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in two starts for Triple-A Norfolk.
The move has been expected for about a week, but manager Dave Trembley finally made it official last night. Bergesen, the Orioles' Minor League Pitcher of the Year last year, is expected to assume the spot in the rotation originally occupied by Alfredo Simon. Watch to see how Bergesen fares in his first outing, as he may turn out to be a decent pickup, especially in AL-only leagues.
The Baltimore Sun reports that prospect Brad Bergesen could be called up soon to fill a long-term spot in the Orioles rotation. He is a candidate to start Baltimore's home opener next Tuesday.
Bergesen holds a load of potential and is currently carrying a 2.45 ERA at Triple-A. He is certainly worth monitoring from the start, but Camden Yards does not figure to do him many favors as it proved to be the best sluggers park in 2008.
