Making his first major league start, Madison Bumgarner filled in admirably for the National League's best pitcher, Tim Lincecum, on short notice Tuesday night. The phenom starter allowed just two runs in 5.1 innings, but like every other Giants pitcher, was betrayed by the team's offense, taking a no-decision in a 4-3 San Francisco loss.
Our View:
It could be his only start of 2009, but was a nice preview for 2010, when he figures to compete for the club's fourth or fifth rotation spot.

Madison Bumgarner has been recalled from Double-A Connecticut, and will likely start tonight in place of Giants ace Tim Lincecum, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Our View:
Bumgarner was 12-2 with a 1.85 ERA between Single-A and Double-A this season. Tonight could be just a one-time thing, so don't fall over backwards trying to add him just yet.

Giants' GM Brian Sabean squashed rumors that the team is trying to acquire either Jermaine Dye or Victor Martinez, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Sabean told the paper that "it would take a Madison Bumgarner-plus type of blockbuster deal," and "that's not going to happen because we're not going to trade Bumgarner."
Our View:
The Giants could use a bat if they want to stay in the race, but it looks like they are not willing to give up any of their young pitching, especially Bumgarner. If the Giants are still in the race as the deadline approaches, they may be more inclined to make a deal, but don't expect Bumgarner to be moved for anyone.

Our View:
The 19-year-old is an elite pitching prospect, and could made an appearance with the Giants before the end of the season.
