Newsbreakers

October 2, 2009

Luis Valbuena was productive in tonight's 6-2 loss at Boston, as he went 3-for-4 with an RBI. He hit a triple and two singles, and also swiped a base.

Our View:

Valbuena has a hit in nine of his last 10 games, with five RBI over the span.

September 25, 2009

Luis Valbuena went 2-for-3 with a single and a solo homer off David Hernandez in tonight's 4-2 win over Baltimore at Progressive Field.

Our View:

Valbuena has a hit in four straight games, and hit his first homer since August 24th.

August 22, 2009

Luis Valbuena was the hero for the Indians on Saturday as the Tribe beat the Mariners 4-3 in 11 innings. Valbuena hit a walk-ff solo shot in the 11th, and was 1-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in the game.

Our View:

Valbuena was the unlikely hero tonight, especially considering it was only his seventh homer of the season. He is hitting .244 on the year, and despite his game tonight he is not much of a fantasy option.

August 11, 2009

Luis Valbuena went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI in tonight's 5-0 win over Texas at Progressive Field.

Our View:

Valbuena was the Indians' top contributor in the lineup tonight, and has a hit in three straight games. He is hitting .304 this month, and the second baseman is worth consideration in AL-only leagues.

June 20, 2009

Luis Valbuena homered twice for the Indians on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Indians fell to the Cubs 6-5 in extra innings. Valbuena was 3-for-5 with the two homers, two runs scored, and two RBI in the game.

Our View:

Valbuena now has three homers in the last two games, and he is starting to look like he can handle the bat at this level. His average is still awfully low at .223, but it will rise in a hurry if he keeps hitting like this.

May 2, 2009

The Indians have called up infielder Luis Valbuena from Triple-A Columbus. He was hitting .321 for the Clippers.

Our View:

The Indians can't offer this 23-year-old infielder many at-bats at the major league level, so we're not sure why he is coming up. It would seem more beneficial for Valbuena to continue seeing every-day action.
