Newsbreakers

October 3, 2009

Scott Richmond got leveled by the Orioles on Saturday. He allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks over just four innings and fell to 8-11 after a 6-3 loss.

Our View:

Richmond, who had a promising first half, has crumbled as the season wore on. His final start resembled every other outing since August 11th (his last quality start).

September 28, 2009

Scott Richmond gave up four earned runs on six hits over six innings in Monday's 11-5 win at Boston. He had two walks with three strikeouts, and surrendered three homers. The game was called after seven innings due to rain.

Our View:

Richmond did not pitch well, but was handed his eighth win of 2009. He allowed four or more earned runs in five of his six starts this month.

September 23, 2009

Scott Richmond wasn't very sharp on Wednesday, allowing three runs in five innings, but still managed to pick up his seventh win, as the Blue Jays beat the Orioles 7-3.

Our View:

After racing to a 4-2 start this season, Richmond's 2009 has ended up very ordinary. In 25 games (22 starts), he is now 7-10 with a 5.32 ERA.

September 18, 2009

Scott Richmond was lit up for five earned runs on seven hits over a mere two innings in Friday's 11-4 loss at Tampa Bay. He had one walk with two strikeouts.

Our View:

Richmond fell to 6-10 following his disastrous short outing. He allowed five or more earned runs in each of his last five starts, and has not earned a win since June 24 (against Cincinnati).

September 12, 2009

Scott Richmond could muster just 4.1 innings on Saturday, taking a no-decision as Toronto won a slugfest 8-6 in Detroit.

Our View:

After posting a 3.69 ERA in 13 pre-All Star game starts, Richmond is 0-4 with an 8.17 ERA in seven outings since the Midsummer Classic.

September 7, 2009

Scott Richmond was lit up for six earned runs on eight hits over six innings in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Twins at the Rogers Centre. He had three walks and two strikeouts.

Our View:

Richmond is 0-5 over his last seven starts, and gave up five or more earned runs in each of his last three.

September 2, 2009

Scott Richmond was rocked for six runs (five earned) on seven hits over five innings in Wednesday's 6-4 loss at Texas. He issued four walks with three strikeouts, and gave up two homers.

Our View:

Richmond falls to 6-8 following his poor outing. He has allowed four or more earned runs in each of his last three starts, and is winless over his last six.

August 28, 2009

Scott Richmond was the victim of a loaded Red Sox lineup on Friday. He was touched for five runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings, but avoided the loss as the Sox won it 6-5 in the eighth.

Our View:

Richmond has now allowed nine runs in his last 12 innings, but on the bright side, has fanned 16 over that stretch.

August 22, 2009

Scott Richmond struck out ten Angels in seven innings on Saturday, but also allowed four runs, taking the loss as Toronto fell 7-3 at home.

Our View:

Saturday marked Richmond's fourth consecutive non-quality start, but the righty has managed to strike out 27 during the span, and to still only allow 13 runs. Not great, but far from terrible.

August 11, 2009

Scott Richmond allowed three earned runs on eight hits over six innings in Tuesday's 7-5 loss at New York. He had two walks and fired eight strikeouts.

Our View:

Richmond has allowed three or more earned runs in each of his last three starts, and is just an option for AL-only leagues right now.

July 27, 2009

Updating a previous report, Blue Jays' manager Cito Gaston told MLB.com that starter Scott Richmond will likely pitch for the team on Friday. Richmond has been on the DL Since July 1 with right shoulder tendinitis.

Our View:

The Jays liked what they saw in Richmond's rehab start for Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday, and as long as he doesn't have any setbacks this week, he should be good to go Friday. Fantasy owners may want to give him a start or two to get back in the groove before tossing him into the lineup.

July 27, 2009

The Toronto Sun is reporting that injured Blue Jays' starter Scott Richmond threw 5.1 innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday. Richmond allowed one run on three hits while striking out five.

Our View:

This was a much better performance than his last rehab outing in which he allowed three runs in 3.1 innings, so it looks like he is on track to rejoin the team in the next week or so. He has struggled on assignment up until this start, so fantasy owners should be cautious with him when he does get activated.

July 22, 2009

The Toronto Sun reports that Scott Richmond (shoulder) allowed three runs in just 3.1 innings in his first rehab start on Monday.

Our View:

Pitching in Single-A, Richmond gave up nine hits (including a homer) in his limited time on the mound. However, he did strike out five and has already been moved up to Double-A. If all goes well Richmond could return in a week or so. He's been very effective this season and the Jays will want him back in the rotation as soon as possible. As to who gets bumped... stay tuned.

July 17, 2009

According to MLBlogs.com, Blue Jays' starter Scott Richmond will be out until at least the end of the month. Richmond is still dealing with soreness in his right shoulder.

Our View:

It was believed that Richmond would be available to start this weekend, but the team is holding him back until the end of July. Expect him back for the team's series against the A's at the end of the month, so fantasy owners will have to go a little while longer without him.

July 8, 2009

MLB.com is reporting that Blue Jays' rookie Scott Richmond underwent an MRI exam and received a cortisone shot on Tuesday. Richmond is suffering from soreness in his right shoulder, and was placed on the DL on Sunday.

Our View:

Richmond will be shut down for three days, but he says that the doctor believes he just has some inflammation or a possible impingement. It doesn't look like the injury is too severe, but we will know more when the MRI results are released. We will keep you updated.

July 5, 2009

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed rookie right-hander Scott Richmond on the 15-day DL with a sore right arm, according to MLB.com. The team plans to recall lefty Brad Mills to start Tuesday, and Brett Cecil will start Sunday in Richmond's place.

Our View:

Richmond tried to pitch through it this week, but he realized he couldn't go today. Cecil will start in his place, but expect Richmond to return and be ready to go when eligible.

June 30, 2009

Scott Richmond gave up three earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Rays at the Rogers Centre. He issued five walks with seven strikeouts, and was tagged for three homers.

Our View:

He fell off track tonight after only allowing two or less earned runs in each of his previous four starts. He should be able to bounce back fine, and shall remain active in fantasy lineups for his next battle.

June 24, 2009

Scott Richmond allowed two earned runs on two hits over seven innings in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Reds at the Rogers Centre. He had two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View:

He earned two wins over his last three starts, and allowed two or less earned runs in each of his last four. Keep the young hurler active in fantasy leagues.

June 21, 2009

According to the Toronto Sun, Scott Richmond will have his next start pushed back a couple of days due to pitching in relief on Saturday.

Our View:

Richmond was originally set to take the mound on Tuesday, but the Jays will bump him back two days. Brad Mills will move up a spot in the rotation and Richmond will go on Thursday. He is 5-4 on the season and has helped relieve the Jays of some of the stress of losing Roy Halladay.

June 17, 2009

Scott Richmond struck out 11 hitters in eight innings as he improved to 5-3 with a win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday. He allowed just six base runners and only one run, on a solo shot by Jason Werth.

Our View:

The 29-year-old has had a number of impressive starts this season. He has allowed two runs or less in nine of his 13 appearances this season. However, he's also given up five earned runs in three of his last seven starts. Tonight marked his first win since May 3, but he is still worth owning in AL-only leagues.

June 6, 2009

Scott Richmond got shelled on Saturday. He allowed five runs on five hits and two walks over just 4.2 innings and took the loss as the Blue Jays fell to the Royals 6-2.

Our View:

Richmond was solid in his three previous appearances (including two starts), but struggled mightily on Saturday. He's 4-3 on the season and his hot start landed him on a litany of mixed league rosters, but he's just 1-3 since April ended with an ERA well over four since that span.

May 24, 2009

Scott Richmond allowed two runs on five hits over five innings, but did not earn a decision in Sunday's 10-2 loss to the Braves. He struck out five and did not walk a man.

Our View:

Richmond has been a nice fantasy surprise this season (along with the rest of the Blue Jays), but has not won a game since starting out 4-0. He's still worth trotting out there every five days, but don't be surprised if he regresses a little more before it's all said and done in 2009.

May 18, 2009

Scott Richmond allowed five hits over seven shutout innings in Monday's 3-2 win over Chicago at the Rogers Centre. He issued one walk and fired seven strikeouts.

Our View:

He pitched great today, but unfortunately took a no decision rather than his fifth win, as Jesse Carlson gave up a two-run homer to slugger Jim Thome in the eighth inning to tie the battle at 2-2.

May 13, 2009

Scott Richmond got shelled by the Yankees on Wednesday, as he gave up five runs on seven hits in just 1.2 innings. He walked two and struck out two in the outing.

Our View:

Richmond has been very good all season, but he was very bad tonight. As good as he has been, his last two starts should have owners a little worried. He is still an option in all leagues, but a few more starts like this will change that value quickly.

May 9, 2009

Scott Richmond had one bad inning on Friday. He pitched a complete game against the A's, but allowed five earned runs in the second inning and it cost him. Seven hits and two walks caused the damage and he took his first loss of the season as the Jays fell 5-3.

Our View:

This was not a bad start by Richmond who has surprised fans and fantasy owners alike this season. He fell apart in the second, but it was nice to see him pick up the pieces and go six strong after that. Expect him to bounce back in his next outing. He has been a solid starter in all fantasy formats so far this season.

May 3, 2009

Scott Richmond was very good again on Sunday, going seven innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while walking two and striking out six. He is now 4-0 on the year with a 2.67 ERA.

Our View:

Richmond has been one of the big surprises so far this season, and he kept his streak going today. Richmond is worth a look in all leagues right now, but be warned that he may not keep this up all year. Get him now and ride him while you can.

April 29, 2009

Scott Richmond had another solid star ton Tuesday and is quietly putting up a great start to the season. He allowed just one run on five hits and three walks over seven innings in a 8-1 win over the Royals.

Our View:

Richmond struck out five in his start and lowered his ERA to 2.70. He's now 3-0 on the season, and, like the rest of the blue jays, has surprised just about everyone.

March 28, 2009

Scott Richmond was not very sharp against against Detroit on Saturday, picking up the loss after giving up three earned runs (five total) off five hits and one walk while striking out three in four innings of work.

Our View:

With Mike Maroth having been released and Matt Clement getting sent down to Triple-A, Richmond is in a three-way battle along with Brad Mills and Ricky Romero for the final two spots in Toronto's initial starting rotation, though this outing certainly won't help his chances. Either way, he's not an attractive fantasy commodity.

February 26, 2009

Scott Richmond threw two hitless innings with one strikeout in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Phillies.

Our View:

The 29-year-old hurler racked up 20 strikeouts over 27 innings last season, while maintaining a 1.26 WHIP. He would be worth a look in AL-only leagues if he nails down a spot in the Jays' rotation.

February 9, 2009

Scott Richmond and Casey Janssen are the top candidates for the final two rotation spots up for grabs in Toronto, according to MLB.com. Roy Halladay, Jesse Litsch and David Purcey are locked into the top three rotation spots. Brett Cecil, Brad Mills, Ricky Romero and Brian Burres will also be competing for the bottom two spots.

Our View:

The 29-year-old Richmond held a 1.26 WHIP over 27 innings with the Jays in 2008, and would be worth a look in deeper AL-only leagues if he manages to earn a starting spot as the fourth or fifth starter.
