Newsbreakers

December 15, 2009

According to Adam McCalvy on Twitter, the Brewers have signed right-hander Mark DiFelice to a minor league contract.

Our View:

DiFelice underwent reconstructive shoulder surgery and won't pitch in 2010, but the Brewers wanted him under contract to better oversee his rehab. Expect him to rejoin the bullpen in 2011 if his recovery goes according to plan.

December 7, 2009

Mark DiFelice has underwent surgery to repair torn labrum and rotator cuff in his shoulder, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt.

Our View:

DiFelice is an effective middle reliever when healthy but could miss the entire 2010 season as a result. There's no need for fantasy owners to know his name regardless, but this news can't make Brewers fans happy.

September 15, 2009

Mark DiFelice (shoulder) has been placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Our View:

The injury is considered just "wear and tear," however, and he is expected to be ready for spring training next season.

September 14, 2009

Updating an earlier report, Mark DiFelice's MRI on his ailing right shoulder only revealed wear and tear, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

He felt pain in the joint when he exited Sunday's game, and feared that his injury was more serious. DiFelice underwent major surgery after the 2001 campaign to repair a SLAP tear to the labrum in his shoulder and needed around two and a half years to feel 100 percent healthy again. He will not throw for at least four days, and then will be re-evaluated. Another surgery does not seem to be on the horizon.

September 14, 2009

Mark DiFelice left Sunday's game in the fourth inning after straining his shoulder, according to MLB.com. No word yet on the extent or seriousness of the injury.

Our View:

DiFelice has a 4-1 record with a 3.66 ERA in 51.2 innings with the Brewers this season, so they would miss him in the bullpen. We will update his status when the team releases the information.

June 9, 2009

Mark DiFelice has been reinstated from the bereavement list, according to TSN. He needed time away from the Brewers to attend his grandmother's funeral.

Our View:

DiFelice is a solid reliever as he has a 1.16 ERA with 23 strikeouts over 23.1 innings of work, but his fantasy value is limited to deeper leagues that feature middle men.

June 4, 2009

Mark DiFelice has been placed on the bereavement list to attend his grandmother's funeral, according to TSN. The Brewers recalled pitcher Chris Smith to take his spot on the roster.

Our View:

DiFelice will not be available through this weekend, and should be held out of fantasy lineups. He will be missed in the Brewers' pen, as he nailed down three wins and holds a 1.16 ERA over 23.1 innings of work.

June 3, 2009

Mark DiFelice is unavailable for the third straight game due to elbow soreness, according to MLB.com. There is no structural damage to the elbow, and the reliever did report that it is feeling better. He will be unavailable this weekend as he will attend his grandmother's funeral.

Our View:

DiFelice is 3-0 with a 1.16 ERA through 23.1 innings of work this season. He is worth consideration in leagues that account for holds. He will rejoin the team next Tuesday.

June 2, 2009

Mark DiFelice will not be able to play tonight while nursing a sore right elbow, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View:

DiFelice would like to resume throwing tomorrow. The middle reliever holds some fantasy value with 23 strikeouts over 23.1 innings, with a solid 0.81 WHIP. He also nailed down three wins.
