According to Anthony Castrovince at MLB.com, the Indians have recalled reliever Jess Todd from Triple-A Columbus.
Todd was the player to be named later in the Mark DeRosa deal with St. Louis. He has posted a 2.04 ERA in 53 innings this season in the minors and will bring his 66 strikeouts to the Indians' troublesome bullpen.
Top Cardinals prospect Jess Todd has been revealed as the "player to be named later" in the Cardinals/Indians Mark DeRosa deal, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
He has been added to the Indians 40-man roster, and will report to Triple-A Columbus. Todd was 4-2 with a 2.20 ERA and 24 saves for Triple-A Memphis so far this season. In 1.2 major league innings in 2009, he surrendered two earned runs.
According to the Twitter Page of Bernie Miklasz, the Cardinals have optioned pitcher Jess Todd to Triple-A Memphis. Todd was called up on Thursday, and he made one appearance out of the bullpen in which he allowed two runs on three hits in 1.2 innings.
The Cardinals were forced to send Todd back to Triple-A because he threw 45 pitches on Friday and would be unavailable for the rest of the weekend. The team is expected to recall pitcher Blake Hawksworth to take Todd's spot in the bullpen.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the Cardinals have purchased the contract of Jess Todd. Todd was the Cardinals' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2008. He is expected to join the bullpen for Thursday night's game against the Reds.
Todd has been outstanding this season as a closer in Triple-A Memphis, and he should be able to contribute to the Cards right away. He holds no fantasy value as a reliever, but he should greatly help out the taxed Cardinals' bullpen.
