Newsbreakers

September 28, 2009

Michael Brantley has been out of the Indians' lineup for two straight days due to a sore right ankle, according to MLB.com. Brantley pinch-hit on Saturday night, but the team has not revealed when he will return to the lineup.

Our View:

Brantley has made the most of his opportunity this season, but the injury is setting him back a bit. He should be fine to return in the next few days, but he isn't worth much of a fantasy look this late in the season.

September 6, 2009

Michael Brantley was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the Indians' 3-1 win over the Twins on Sunday.

Our View:

Brantley has been hitting the ball well since coming up to the big club, and he had his hand in all three Indian runs today. He should continue to play with Grady Sizemore out for the season, so AL-only leaguers may want to give him a look.

September 1, 2009

Michael Brantley went 2-for-4 with a run scored in tonight's 8-5 loss at Detroit. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View:

Brantley started the game in left field, and should earn more playing time if he continues to hit well. He is worth targeting as a flier for AL-only leagues.

September 1, 2009

Michael Brantley has been recalled by the Indians from Triple-A Columbus, according to TSN.

Our View:

Brantley batted .267 with six homers, 37 RBI and 46 stolen bases with Columbus this season. He was part of the deal that sent ace hurler CC Sabathia to Milwaukee last year.

August 27, 2009

Michael Brantley went 3-for-5 with one steal and three RBI for Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

Our View:

Acquired last season in the CC Sabathia trade, Brantley could get an opportunity for the Indians in September. He is an extremely disciplined hitter (55/46 BB/K) who has been incredibly efficient as a base stealer this season with 42 steals in 47 attempts. The 22-year-old could be an impact player for fantasy owners if he can pickup his hitting.

June 7, 2009

Michael Brantley went 4-for-5 with a homer and two RBI with Triple-A Columbus in Saturday's 12-0 win over Gwinnett, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:

Brantley was a chip in the deal that sent CC Sabathia to Milwaukee, but he currently holds no fantasy value as the Indians are very deep in their outfield.

March 24, 2009

Michael Brantley has been optioned to Triple-A Columbus by the Indians, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:

Brantley was part of the deal that sent ace hurler CC Sabathia to Milwaukee, and could be back at some point during the season, depending on injuries.

March 6, 2009

Michael Brantley was 0-for-2 Friday but drove in a pair of runs in Cleveland's 17-7 loss to Milwaukee.

Our View:

Brantley is a fine hitter who thrives on contact and the ability to make things happen offensively with his small-ball mentality. Acquired in the CC Sabathia trade with Milwaukee last season, he figures to spend most of this upcoming season at AAA Columbus.
