Clayton Mortensen was hammered for six earned runs on eight hits over one inning in Wednesday's 7-0 loss at Seattle. He had no walks or strikeouts.

Our View:

Mortensen fell to 2-4 with a 7.63 ERA following his nightmarish short outing. He is 0-2 over his last two starts, and allowed nine earned runs over the span.

Clayton Mortensen gave up seven runs (three earned) on six hits over 4.2 innings in Wednesday's 9-8 loss to the Rangers at McAfee Coliseum. He had one walk and one strikeout.

Our View:

Mortensen had a tough outing, and now has a losing record at 2-3. He allowed two or less earned runs in each of his previous two starts.

September 18, 2009

Clayton Mortensen was solid if unspectacular for the second straight outing on Thursday, allowing two runs in five innings, as Oakland beat the Indians 5-2 at home.

Our View:

He's now 2-2 with a 6.14 ERA in four starts for the A's. Despite the crooked ERA, he's a definite contender for a 2010 rotation spot.

September 11, 2009

Clayton Mortensen only surrendered one earned run on five hits over six innings in Friday's 12-5 win at Minnesota. He had two walks with no strikeouts.

Our View:

September 4, 2009

Clayton Mortensen was tagged for four earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Mariners at McAfee Coliseum. He issued three walks with one strikeout.

Our View:

Mortensen is now 0-2 over two starts with Oakland, and was rocked for eight earned runs over four innings in his previous outing at Kansas City. The 24-year-old hurler's fantasy stock remains low.

September 4, 2009

Clayton Mortensen, one of the players the A's received in exchange for Matt Holliday, is being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to start for the team on Friday.

Our View:

In one previous start for the A's this season, Mortensen allowed eight runs in four innings against the Royals' dreadful lineup.

August 9, 2009

Clayton Mortensen has been sent back to Triple-A Sacramento after getting roughed up in his first start for the A's on Saturday.

Our View:

Part of the Matt Holliday deal, Mortensen looks like he'll need some more minor league seasoning before becoming a meaningful major league contributor. Expect him to be back up in September once rosters can be expanded.

August 9, 2009

Clayton Mortensen was greeted by eight runs, courtesy of the Royals' eight hits and three walks in his A's debut. He last just four innings and was handed his first loss of the season.

Our View:

Mortensen has been a solid minor league pitcher, but has yet to figure it out in the Majors. He could be useful down the road, but it's obvious he needs a little more seasoning.

August 8, 2009

According to MLB.com, A's pitcher Clayton Mortensen has been recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to start Saturday against the Royals. Mortensen will be making his first start for the A's after coming over in the Matt Holliday trade.

Our View:

Clay-Mo will not only be making his A's debut today, but he will also be making his first career MLB start. His fantasy value isn't great, but it might be worth keeping an eye on him today for Al-only owners.

July 24, 2009

Clayton Mortensen has been traded to the Oakland A's as a part of the Matt Holliday trade, according to ESPN.com. Mortensen threw three innings for the Cardinals out of the bullpen this season.

Our View:

ClayMo has been a highly-touted pitching prospect for the Cardinals for a few years now, but the team has soured on him a bit over this season. He saw some time with the big club this season, and he looks to project as a starter with the A's at some point down the line.

July 1, 2009

Has been sent back down to Triple-A Memphis, just two days after getting called up, according to Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:

Mortensen had a cup of coffee to forget in his one appearance with the Cardinals, getting shelled by the Giants on Monday night. Given the Cards knack for roster moves, he will surely get another big league chance sometime in 2009.

June 29, 2009

Clayton Mortensen has been recalled from Triple-A Memphis, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:

He is likely taking the roster spot of Khalil Greene, who is expected to be placed back on the disabled list with anxiety issues. He is probably going to be a reliever in the short term, but could possibly get a start somewhere down the line.

June 8, 2009

Clayton Mortensen allowed one run on six hits in a complete game victory for Triple-A Memphis on Monday. He didn't allow any walks and struck out eight.

Our View:

The former first-round draft choice is now 6-3 with a 3.28 ERA. He has a strong groundball rate and projects as a middle of the rotation starter. He should be in the majors at some point this season.

February 28, 2009

Clayton Mortensen's MRI on his ailing elbow came back negative, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

This is good news, but it remains uncertain when he will be able to participate in a spring game. He is expected to start the season in the minors.

February 26, 2009
