After landing on the disabled list last August with elbow tightness, top Diamondbacks pitching prospect Jarrod Parker is set to undergo Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery, according to Reynolds Sports.
Parker, just 21, went 5-6 with a 3.14 ERA between High-A and Double-A ball last season. The Diamondbacks number one draft pick from 2007 has now, at minimum, been set back 12-18 months in his quest to become a major leaguer.
According to the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks' top pitching prospect Jarrod Parker has been placed on the disabled list with elbow tightness. He is expected to miss the rest of the season.
The D-Backs planned to insert Parker into their 2010 rotation, so this is extremely discouraging news. No word yet on how serious it is, but one has to wonder if Tommy John surgery is looming. Even if the injury turns out to be minor it will still limit Parker to some extent next season. This comes on the heels of finding out they likely won't have Brandon Webb next season either. It's a sad day in the desert.
