MLB.com reports that the Phillies have optioned reliever Andrew Carpenter to Triple-A.
Carpenter has been up and down from the minors this season, and his most recent stint with the big club was all too brief. He was recalled on July 23rd, but after allowing two runs in his two appearances since then he has been demoted once again.
Andrew Carpenter was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley by the Phillies, according to the Associated Press. Reliever Chad Durbin was placed on the DL as the corresponding move.
Carpenter gave up five earned runs at Washington in his lone start this season, but collected a win. He could make some spot starts, and is worth holding in deeper NL-only leagues.
Andrew Carpenter has been sent back down to Triple-A by the Phillies, according to TSN. Sergio Escalona was recalled as the adjoining move.
Carpenter was rocked for five earned runs and three walks over a mere 4.1 innings of work in his lone start against the Nationals, and the 24-year-old is not ready for the majors.
According to MLB.com, rookie Andrew Carpenter will make his first major league start on Saturday. He was recalled from Triple-A and will pitch the night game of a day-night doubleheader.
The start was initially intended for lefty J.A. Happ, but he had to pitch in relief last night due to another blown save by Brad Lidge that sent the game into extras. The Phillies DFAed Miguel Cairo to make room for Carpenter, but he likely won't be around much after this start.
