According to the Arizona Republic, Gerardo Parra suffered a leg injury in while playing in the Venezuelan Winter League.

Our View:

Parra is headed back to Phoenix for an examination and is expected to miss about three weeks. The injury is being called a partial tear of the thigh muscle, but he is expected to return for the VWL playoffs and should be good to go for spring training.

August 27, 2009

Gerardo Parra went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday night, but couldn't stop the Diamondbacks from blowing it late, as the Giants scored three eighth innings runs to win 4-3 at home.

Our View:

Parra is hitting above .300 since replacing the ineffective Chris Young in the Diamondbacks outfield, but supplies too little power to be considered outside of NL-only leagues.

August 12, 2009

Filling in for the demoted Chris Young, Gerardo Parra went 3-for-5 with two runs in the Snakes' 6-4 loss to the Mets.

Our View:

In his first two games since Young was sent to Triple-A, Parra has done what he couldn't - resemble a major league ballplayer. He has gone 4-for-9 with two RBI while striking out "just" three times. He's worth a look in NL-only leagues.

August 11, 2009

Gerardo Parra looks to be the biggest benefactor of the team's decision to option center fielder Chris Young to the minors, according to MLB.com. Parra is expected to get most of the playing time in center while Young is gone.

Our View:

Parra has been a very nice offensive contributor for the D-Backs this season, and he should be more comfortable defensively in center. Look for him to finish out the season strong, and he should remain a solid NL-only play.

July 26, 2009

Gerardo Parra helped the Diamondbacks to a rout of the Pirates on Sunday, going 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in a 9-0 victory.

Our View:

The four RBI were a career high for the young left-fielder. He has substantial value in NL-only leagues, and could become a player in mixed formats if he heats up down the stretch.

July 7, 2009

Gerardo Parra went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run on Tuesday in the Diamondbacks 4-3 win over the Padres.

Our View:

Parra is having one of the better rookie seasons in the National League this year, but only really has value in deep NL-only or keeper leagues.

June 28, 2009

Gerardo Parra went 2-for-5 with two RBI on Sunday in the D-Backs' 12-8 loss to the Angels. Parra is now hitting .259 on the year.

Our View:

Parra has been fairly impressive in his first major league season, but his fantasy value is still relatively low. He could be considered in NL-only leagues, but outside of that he probably doesn't warrant a look unless you are in a deep keeper league.

June 18, 2009

Gerardo Parra had three RBIs in the Diamondbacks 12-5 win over the Royals on Thursday night, and now has 21 since being called up on May 13.

Our View:

He might be worth a look if you are thin at outfield in an NL only league or a deeper mixed league.

May 27, 2009

Gerardo Parra was 2-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Padres.

Our View:

Parra has been solid in his 13 games since getting called up from Triple-A. He has a homer, two triples and two double to go with his .291 average and 13 RBI and is a great pick up in NL-only leagues. If he continues to progress he'll get some looks in mixed leagues as well.

May 19, 2009

Gerardo Parra kept his hot hitting alive on Tuesday as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Arizona's 5-3 win over the Marlins.

Our View:

Parra has been an offensive catalyst since his call-up, which is exactly what the light hitting D-Backs needed. Parra is hitting .412 with a homer and six RBI in his first four games. If Arizona decides to keep him in the lineup for the rest of the season he could create a real fantasy splash.

May 16, 2009

Gerardo Parra had another impressive game for the Diamondbacks on Saturday as the pounded the Braves 12-0. Parra went 3-for-6 with a triple, a run scored, and three RBI.

Our View:

Parra has been very good since getting called up, and he has shown why he was considered the D-Backs' top position prospect. He could be a good add in NL-only leagues and may even turn out to be a player in mixed leagues if he stays in the lineup.

May 14, 2009

Gerardo Parra homered in his first major league at-bat on Wednesday. Parra was called up earlier in the day from Double-A and he started in center field and hit second.

Our View:

Welcome to the big leagues Mr. Parra. He may have only had one hit, but it is one he will remember for the rest of his life. He is the D-Backs' top prospect, and if he plays a lot he should have some fantasy value this season.

May 13, 2009

Gerardo Parra has been called up by the Damondbacks. He will be starting in center field and batting second for Arizona against the Reds on Wednesday.

Our View:

Parra is probably the D-Backs top prospect, and with the team struggling they decided to give him a chance. Parra is a good hitter, and could make an impact right away with the big club. He may be worth a look in NL-only leagues, but it may be a good idea to wait and see on him at this point. If he sees a lot of playing time, it could hurt the value of Chris Young and Eric Byrnes.

May 5, 2009

Gerardo Parra went 3-for-5 with his second home run of the season for Double-A Mobile on Monday.

Our View:

Two days shy of age 22, Parra is arguably Arizona's best outfield prospect. His already solid plate discipline has gotten even better in the early going with a gaudy 17/9 BB/K ratio this season, resulting in a .375 batting average. He still needs to work on his base-stealing skills with six steals in 10 attempts this season and 28 steals in 41 attempts last season.
