Poreda has walked 37 in in 32.2 innings with Portland since the trade, and he won't be able to pitch effectively at the major league level until he gets some control over his stuff. He has the stuff to be effective, as evidenced by the eight strikeouts, but he needs to get some control.
Aaron Poreda has been shipped from Chicago to San Diego as part of the trade involving former Cy Young winner Jake Peavy, according to Ed Price's twitter page. Clayton Richard, Adam Russell and Dexter Carter were dealt to the Padres as well.
Poreda was a top prospect for the Sox, and could find his way into the Padres' rotation before the end of the 2009 season. He will get to play his home games at pitcher-friendly Petco Park, and shall remain stashed in keeper leagues.

Poreda was the team's first pick in the 2007 draft, and he has been excellent since being called up in June. There has been some speculation that he could join the rotation considering he has been a starter in the past, but the Sox want to keep him in the pen. If you are in a league that utilizes middle men, he could be worth a look, but outside of that he has little value.
