Trevor Cahill was lit up for six earned runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings in Tuesday's 6-4 loss at Seattle. He had two walks with one strikeout.

Our View:

The rookie fell off track after going 4-0 over his previous five starts. He is now 10-13 with a 4.63 ERA for the season.

September 22, 2009

Trevor Cahill only surrendered one earned run on six hits over 5.2 innings in Tuesday's 9-1 win over Texas at McAfee Coliseum. He had two walks with one strikeout.

Our View:

The rookie improved his record to 10-12, and is pitching very well right now, as he only allowed one earned run over his last 12.2 innings (two starts).

September 16, 2009

Trevor Cahill only surrendered one hit over seven scoreless innings in Wednesday's 4-0 win at Texas. He had two walks and fired seven strikeouts.

Our View:

The rookie had one of his best outings of the season after giving up three earned runs in each of his previous two starts. He trimmed his ERA to 4.54, and has not taken a loss over his last six starts.

September 9, 2009

Trevor Cahill's three inning performance was costly for the A's on Wednesday night, as their bullpen would be forced to pitch 9.2 innings before ultimately losing 4-3 to the White Sox in 13 innings on the road.

Our View:

Cahill has had a forgettable rookie campaign in 2009, posting an 8-12 record to go along with a 4.74 ERA in 29 starts.

September 2, 2009

Trevor Cahill gave up three earned runs on six hits over five innnings in Wednesday's 10-4 win over the Royals at McAfee Coliseum. He had two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View:

Cahill earned his eighth win, and allowed two or less earned runs in each of his previous three starts heading into today. The rookie could continue to pitch well, as long as he doesn't wear down.

August 28, 2009

Trevor Cahill only surrendered two hits over seven scoreless innings in Thursday's 2-0 win at the Angels. He had two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View:

Cahill improved his record to 7-12, and trimmed his ERA to 4.64. The rookie is pitching well right now, as he allowed two or less earned runs in each of his last three starts.

August 22, 2009

Trevor Cahill was very good on Saturday against the Tigers, but he did not factor into the decision in the A's 3-2 win. Cahill went seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out four.

Our View:

Cahill has now put together two very good starts in a row after struggling for the previous two months, and it looks like the rookie is starting to get more comfortable. He hasn't gotten a decision over those last two starts, but the A's will take performances like this every time out.

August 16, 2009

Trevor Cahill held the White Sox to just two runs on six hits and a pair of walks over six innings on Sunday. The A's won 3-2 on a walk-off homer by Mark Ellis, but Cahill didn't earn a decision.

Our View:

The Rookie hurler has struggled the last two months and is best left off fantasy rosters outside of AL-only leagues until he gets a little more seasoning. He has a 4.97 ERA on the season.

August 11, 2009

Trevor Cahill gave up three earned runs on eight hits over seven innings in Tuesday's 3-2 loss at Baltimore. He had no walks with four strikeouts.

Our View:

Cahill had a decent outing, but suffered his 12th loss of the season. He has taken a loss in four straight starts, and carries a 5.06 ERA for the season. The rookie is only an option for deeper fantasy leagues right now.

August 6, 2009

Trevor Cahill continued his struggles on Thursday as he dropped his 11th game of the season in the A's 6-4 loss to the Rangers. Cahill went six innings and allowed five runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out six.

Our View:

Cahill's ERA is up to 5.13, and when you factor in his 6-11 record, it should tell you all you need to know about his fantasy value. He is still young and going through some growing pains at this level, but there is still some hope that he will turn into a good MLB pitcher in the coming years.

August 1, 2009

Trevor Cahill was lit up for six earned runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Jays at McAfee Coliseum. He had four walks and two strikeouts, and was tagged for two homers.

Our View:

Cahill falls to 6-10 and his ERA climbs to 5.01. The rookie only has one win over his last seven starts, and gave up six earned runs in each of his last two. He is not fit for fantasy duty right now.

July 27, 2009

Trevor Cahill got rocked to the tune of six runs off 10 hits and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings against Boston on Monday.

Our View:

Cahill was able to make it through the fifth inning, something he'd done just twice in his previous five outings, but he still did little to impress on Monday. At this point, there's no reason to own the 21-year-old in practically any format.

July 22, 2009

Trevor Cahill was in control from the hill in Wednesday's 16-1 win over the Twins at McAfee Coliseum, as he only issued one earned run on six hits over seven innings. He had two walks with four strikeouts.

Our View:

Cahill ended a four-game skid without a win, and improves to 6-8 for the season. The rookie is worth consideration for fantasy lineups in his next trip to the hill following today's strong performance.

July 18, 2009

Trevor Cahill did not factor into the decison on Friday as the A's defeated the Angels by a score of 7-3. Cahill went only 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on six hits while walking four and no striking out a batter.

Our View:

Cahill wasn't great tonight, and he didn't do his bullpen any favors by not being able to get through the fifth inning. He hasn't been good as of late, and he is starting to lose value. AL-only leaguers should still use him for now, but mixed leagers should find a better option.

July 8, 2009

Trevor Cahill has another poor outing on Wednesday against the Red Sox. He allowed four runs on four hits and three walks in just 5.1 innings and took the loss as the A's fell 5-4.

Our View:

Cahill was cruising in June, but has now had three bad starts in a row and has seen his record fall to 5-8 and his ERA rise to 4.67. He's a promising young hurler, but has allowed 16 runs in his last three starts.

July 3, 2009

Trevor Cahill got blasted by a lineup full of frustrated Indians on Friday night. He allowed eight runs (five earned) on six hits and four walks over just 3.2 innings. He fell to 5-7 as the A's got stomped 15-3.

Our View:

The rookie hurler has impressed this season, but has fallen on hard times lately. He has allowed 15 runs (12 earned) in his last 7.1 innings. You may want to consider benching him until he figures it out again.

June 27, 2009

Trevor Cahill got rocked by Colorado on Saturday, giving up seven runs off eight hits, half of which left the yard, and one walk while striking out two.

Our View:

Cahill had given up no more than three runs in his previous seven starts and was clearly hurt by an inordinate amount of home runs on Saturday, so expect the 21-year-old to bounce back in his next start.

June 22, 2009

Trevor Cahill was in control from the hill in Monday's 5-1 win over the Giants at McAfee Coliseum, as he only allowed one earned run on four hits over seven innings. He had one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View:

Cahill evened his record to 5-5, and trimmed his ERA to 3.68. The rookie is 3-0 over five starts so far in June, and is worth employing in fantasy lineups for his next turn in the A's rotation.

June 18, 2009

Trevor Cahill allowed just two unearned runs in 5.1 innings against the Dodgers to improve to 4-5 on the season. He gave up four hits and four walks, while striking out three in the game.

Our View:

Cahill has had two bad starts out of 14. If you were to remove those blemishes, he would be boasting a 2.50 ERA this season, which would obviously be impressive. The lack of offense behind doesn't help matters, and he's not a strikeout pitcher. In fact, he has 35 walks compared to only 39 strikeouts this season. Still the 21-year-old bears watching.

June 11, 2009

Trevor Cahill gave up three earned runs on seven hits over seven innings in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Twins at McAfee Coliseum. He had two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View:

Oakland was trailing 3-0 when Cahill exited the game, so he takes a no-decision. He has not taken a loss over his last three starts, and has been pitching fairly well as of late.

June 6, 2009

Trevor Cahill picked up his third win of the season on Saturday as the A's dominated the Orioles 9-4. Cahill went six innings and allowed two runs on six hits while striking out five. He is now 3-5 on the year.

Our View:

Cahill has turned into a fairly consistent pitcher, and he has given up more than two runs only once in his last five starts. His record isn't great, but he could be a decent mixed league fill-in if you need a pitcher. AL-only leaguers should give him a big time look as a legit starter.

June 1, 2009

Trevor Cahill allowed two earned runs on three hits over 5.2 innings in Monday's 6-2 loss at Chicago. He issued two walks with three strikeouts.

Our View:

Cahill ended the night with a no-decision, and has gone four straight starts without a win. He only allowed more than two earned runs once over that span though.

June 1, 2009

Trevor Cahill will be attempting to snap a personal three game losing streak when he takes the mound Monday night against the White Sox according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Aside from his May 17 start against the Tigers, when he gave up 7 earned runs in 2.1 IP, Cahill has been effective, lowering his ERA from 5.01 to 4.45. He is a decent spot starting option in deep leagues.

May 27, 2009

Trevor Cahill was hit with the loss on Wednesday as the A's fell to the Mariners 6-1. Cahill went six innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits while walking one and striking out five.

Our View:

Decent outing by Cahill today, but he fell to 2-5 on the year. He is a young pitcher who is still learning how to pitch at this level, but he has some potential to be a decent option this season. He will have his bad days, but AL-only owners should give him a look. Mixed leaguers should monitor him going forward, but the team he plays on limits his mixed league potential.

May 17, 2009

Trevor Cahill surrendered seven earned runs on seven hits over a mere 2.1 innings of action in Sunday's 11-7 loss at Detroit. He issued two walks with no strikeouts.

Our View:

Cahill had a personal two-game winning streak snapped, while suffering his worst outing of the season. The young prospect should be able to bounce back, but will remain an unstable fantasy option.

May 13, 2009

Trevor Cahill had a strong start on Tuesday against the Royals. He allowed just two runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings and earned his second win of the season as the A's ripped the Royals 21-3.

Our View:

Cahill is a promising young prospect and has decent fantasy value with a 2-2 record and a 3.69 ERA, but he can hurt you in strikeout-heavy leagues with a low K-rate and poor strikeout-to-walk ratio.

May 7, 2009

Trevor Cahill allowed just one run in seven innings of work as the A's beat the Rangers 9-4 on Thursday. He allowed five hits, no walks, and struck out four in the outing.

Our View:

Aside from one start against the Rays, Cahill has looked very good this season. In his five other starts, he has given up just seven earned runs in 30.1 innings. His fantasy value is very limited because he does not strike out many hitters, but the 21-year-old looks like a solid member in the A's young rotation.

May 2, 2009

Trevor Cahill only allowed one earned run on seven hits over six innings in Saturday's 3-2 win at Seattle. He issued three walks with one strikeout.

Our View:

Other than the three free passes, it was a strong outing for Cahill. He exited the game tied at 1-1, and was handed a no-decision. He is yet to claim his first win over five starts.

April 28, 2009

According to the San Fransisco Chronicle, Trevor Cahill's start has been has been pushed back to Saturday against Seattle. He was originally slated to pitch on Wednesday.

Our View:

The team wanted to give the rookie hurler some extra bullpen sessions to work on his command issues. He has allowed 15 walks in 20 innings this season and needs to figure something out fast or he could find himself back in Triple-A

April 25, 2009

Trevor Cahill was destroyed by the Rays on Friday night. He allowed seven runs on eight hits and two walks before being yanked after just 2.2 innings. The A's lost 8-2 and Cahill was handed his second loss of the season.

Our View:

They A's are hurting for pitching, and may have brought Cahill up too early. He's a highly touted prospect, but looked lost on Friday. His previous three starts weren't too bad, but the young hurler doesn't strike out enough hitters to get tons of fantasy attention yet. He has seven Ks in almost 20 innings.

April 18, 2009

Trevor Cahill struggled with his command on Saturday, but worked his ways out of jams. He allowed two runs on five hits and five walks over 5.1 innings and did not factor in the decision as the Blue Jays emerged victorious in the 12th inning.

Our View:

Cahill is a promising young talent and has the ability to be a solid Major League starter, but he needs to work on his command. The young hurler has now walked 13 in just over 17 innings.

April 12, 2009

Trevor Cahill looked very good over seven innings of work in Sunday's 1-0 loss to the Mariners. The 21-year-old allowed just two hits, but walked three and gave up the earned run. He struck out three batters and had a no-hitter through six innings.

Our View:

Cahill has loads of potential, but it's anyone's guess if he will grow into during his first season in the majors. Obviously today's performance indicates good things in his future, and he is certainly worth consideration in most formats. However, his eight walks in 12 innings indicate the inconsistency that he will probably show throughout the season.

April 12, 2009

Trevor Cahill is set for his second start of the season today against Seattle at McAfee Coliseum, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:

Skipper Bob Geren would like to see a better strike percentage from Cahill today, as he only threw 57 strikes out of 103 pitches in his season debut. He only allowed two earned runs on five hits over five innings though. He will be looking for his first win of the season, as will opposing hurler Erik Bedard.

March 29, 2009

Trevor Cahill is closing in on the final spot in the Athletics' rotation, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:

The 21-year-old is a top pitching prospect for Oakland, and is worth a look as a sleeper for AL-only leagues. Brett Anderson locked up the other rotation spot up for grabs.

March 22, 2009

Trevor Cahill threw five innings on Saturday and only allowed one run on four hits. He did not walk a man and struck out two.

Our View:

Cahill is a big time prospect and has had a fine spring so far. He has a shot at cracking the rotation this season because of the A's lack of depth, but beware of a talented kid who gets brought up a year too early.

March 11, 2009

According to Buster Olney of ESPN Trevor Cahill looks so good this spring that GM Billy Beane is considering him for a spot in this year's rotation. Brett Anderson and Vin Mazzaro are also on the bubble.

Our View:

Cahill is a huge prospect, and the A's have a history of getting the most out of their young pitching. If Beane thinks he's ready he'll likely get the innings. Even if this doesn't turn out to be the year, he's a great, cheap grab for a keeper league.
