August 24, 2009

Chris Getz is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte Wednesday, according to the Chicago Tribune. He is recovering from a strained right oblique.

Our View:

Jayson Nix will continue to fill in at second base while Getz is on the DL. Getz was only batting .267 prior to going down, but was a viable source for speed with 18 stolen bases.

August 14, 2009

According to the Chicago Tribune, the White Sox have placed infielder Chris Getz on the 15-day disabled list with an oblique strain.

Our View:

The move is retroactive to Wednesday and the corresponding transaction was to recall Brent Lillibridge from Triple-A. Getz was hitting .267 with 18 stolen bases in 89 games before going down.

August 13, 2009

Chris Getz is believed to be bound for the DL due to an oblique injury, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:

Jayson Nix would move into the starting gig at second base while Getz is on the shelf, hence raising his fantasy value. The Sun-Times also notes that Brent Lillibridge will be recalled from the minors for depth.

July 9, 2009

Chris Getz went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 10-8 loss to Cleveland at U.S. Cellular Field. He hit a double and three singles. He also swiped two bases.

Our View:

Getz raised his season average to .258, and is hitting .368 over 19 at-bats this month. Getz is worth employing in AL-only leagues.

June 2, 2009

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Chris Getz is not in the White Sox' lineup on Tuesday. Getz is recovering from a foot injury, and he will be replaced by Jayson Nix at second base.

Our View:

Getz' injury seems to be fairly minor, but he will not play tonight. Get him out of your lineup if you have him in, and you should probably keep him out even when he returns to the lineup.

April 30, 2009

As expected, Chris Getz has been cleared to return to Chicago's lineup Friday at Texas, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

Getz received treatment on his fractured right middle finger today, and showed enough improvement to return to the diamond. He is hitting .340 over 47 at-bats, but fantasy owners may want to hold off on returning him to lineups until he proves to be effective again.

April 29, 2009

The White Sox expect second baseman Chris Getz (finger) to return to the lineup on Friday, MLB.com reports. "That's the expectation," manager Ozzie Guillen says. Getz missed his fifth straight game on Wednesday, and the White Sox are off on Thursday.

Our View:

Getz has a fractured bone at the tip of his right middle finger, and we're a bit skeptical about him picking up where he left off. Fantasy owners may want to wait a extra game or two before using him.

April 29, 2009

Second basemen Chris Getz (finger) is out of the lineup again on Wednesday, the Chicago Tribune notes. He has a fractured bone on the tip of his right middle finger. Brent Lillibridge will start in his place.

Our View:

It will be the fifth game that Getz has missed. The White Sox say he is recovering well, but a DL stint remains possible.

April 28, 2009

Chris Getz is recovering quickly from a fractured bone in the tip of his right middle finger, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:

Getz is optimistic he can return to the lineup as early as tonight against the Mariners, but skipper Ozzie Guillen is yet to make a decision or set at timetable. The Sox may still decide to place him on the DL. We will keep you posted on his status.

April 26, 2009

Updating a previous report, the Chicago Tribune is reporting that Chris Getz has a fractured bone in the tip of his right middle finger. A trip to the DL is possible, but Getz will be evaluated further before a decision is made.

Our View:

Getz has been playing pretty well for the White Sox, so a DL stint would certainly hurt his value. Brent Lillibridge should get the bulk of the playing time in Getz's absence.

April 26, 2009

Chris Getz has been scratched from the White Sox lineup for the second straight day on Sunday with a sore middle finger, according to the Chicago Tribune. Brent Lillibridge will start in his place at second base.

Our View:

Lillibridge made a highlight reel play at second yesterday, and he will be back at the position today. Getz is expected to be back and available for Monday's game against Seattle.

April 25, 2009

The Chicago Tribune reports that Chris Getz was left out of Saturday's lineup due to a sore middle finger. Brent Lillibridge started in his place and hit leadoff. The injury is not believed to be serious.

Our View:

Despite hitting .340 with a .396 OBP in the leadoff spot, Getz has only six runs scored this season. Assuming he continues to hit well, he should score runs at a better rate going forward. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts his second time through the AL and if he can continue to get on base at such an impressive clip.

April 22, 2009

Chris Getz had another nice day at the plate on Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and a stolen base. He raised is average to .316 on the season.

Our View:

Getz has been hot as of late, and he has settled in nicely to the starting second base job. His run production and stolen base tonight are good signs, but he still has very limited fantasy value.

April 19, 2009

Chris Getz went 2-for-6 with two RBI in Sunday's 12-2 win over the Rays.

Our View:

Getz has two hits in each of his last three games and his average is up to .281. The stretch helps solidify his grasp on the starting second base job but his fantasy value remains very limited until he starts showing some speed.

April 16, 2009

Chris Getz returned to Chicago's lineup against Tampa Bay on Thursday after missing the previous two games with an ailing elbow, going 2-for-5 with a double from the leadoff spot.

Our View:

Getz hasn't gotten a whole lot of attention within the fantasy community, though he is a possible 10/10 guy at second base with the potential to hit for a fine average and score a load of runs if he can remain atop the White Sox lineup.

April 15, 2009

Chris Getz will remain out of Chicago's lineup today against the Tigers, according to the Chicago Tribune. He is getting another day to rest his ailing elbow.

Our View:

Brent Lillibridge will replace him at second base and bat leadoff. Getz may be back for Thursday's game at Tampa Bay.

April 14, 2009

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen told the Chicago Tribune Tuesday that Chris Getz was kept out of Tuesday's lineup as a precautionary measure. Guillen also said that Getz will return to the lineup on Wednesday.

Our View:

Getz said that his elbow felt better today after a few rounds of batting practice, so he should be good to go tomorrow. Brent Lillibridge will start in Getz's place at second base in today's game.

April 14, 2009

Chris Getz will miss another game today at Detroit while nursing a bruised right elbow, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

Brent Lillibridge will replace him at second base and will bat leadoff. Getz did not play Monday, and the club did not mention how many more games he may need to miss.

April 13, 2009

Chris Getz is out of today's lineup while nursing a right elbow bruise, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

Brent Lillibridge will replace him at second base against Detroit. Adjust your lineups accordingly. It is uncertain how many games Getz will need to miss.

April 4, 2009

Skipper Ozzie Guillen noted that Chris Getz could see time in the leadoff spot this season, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Guillen said, "Leadoff, we are going to start with Wise at that position. If that does not work, then Getz. Getz is going to get you consistently good at-bats day after day. How much is he is going to hit? Well, we are going to find out."

Our View:

Getz fared well getting on base in spring training, and has good speed to be a threat to steal bases. He won't offer much power, but is worth targeting as a flier for AL-only and deeper mixed leagues.

April 1, 2009

Chris Getz is expected to bat second in the White Sox opening day lineup, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

Getz brings with him quite a bit of speed, and 30 stolen bases is by no means out of the question. If he can continue to hit right-handers as well as he has in the spring, he should maintain his grip on the every day job. He won't provide much power and his batting average figures to be, well, average. However, he should be a decent reserve infielder if for nothing else besides his runs scored and stolen bases.

March 21, 2009

According to MLB.com, Chris Getz has been named the starting second baseman for the White Sox.

Our View:

This instantly makes Getz a fantasy option, especially in AL-only leagues. He has decent pop and impressed in camp with his speed, defense and plate discipline. He'll likely get snatched off the waiver wire if he starts hot.

March 19, 2009

Chris Getz is Chicago's likely starter at second base with Jayson Nix unable to compete with a quadriceps injury, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

Getz has decent power for a middle infielder, and could hit for a solid average. He would be worth a look as a flier for AL-only leagues if he nails down the starting gig at second.
