Fowler, who came in as a replacement for Seth Smith, finished the game 1-for-2 and scored the Rockies' insurance run as well. Fowler hasn't seen a lot of playing time lately after hitting Just .250 in July, but delivered in a big way on Sunday.
According to the Denver Post, Dexter Fowler has earned the everyday starting job for the Rockies in center field.
This is no doubt a result of his recent play and blinding speed at the top of the order (nine steals this season). Fowler is also batting .302 with an .884 OPS and plays exceptional defense. His numbers made Manager Clint Hurdle's decision very easy. Fowler is a great option in NL-only leagues and is even a nice average/steals option in mixed leagues.
Rookie Dexter Fowler was 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs scored, and two walks in Colorado's 12-7 win over the Padres on Monday.
Fowler's batting average is up to .302 and he now has nine stolen bases on the season. He figures to get the large majority of the starts in center field for the Rockies and it looks like he should pay off handsomely for the fantasy owners who invested in him. It's an encouraging sign that he has drawn eight walks against his eight strikeouts in his first 16 games.

Fowler was phenomenal at Double-A last season and continued to play well for the Olympic squad in China. He possesses loads of tools and is just 23 years old. However, word is that he would have to have an outstanding spring to start out on the major league roster. So far, he has struck out nine times in 25 at-bats and carries only a .280 batting average. He will likely be up at some point this season, but it's optimistic to think he will be the Rockies opening day center fielder.
Dexter Fowler will compete with Ryan Spilborghs for the Rockies' starting gig in center field, according to the Denver Post. Fowler has added 10 to 12 pounds of muscle in the off-season and GM Dan O'Dowd said, "I would not count out the kid. When you have young players like Dexter, you never know when they are going to pop."
Fowler, who is a switch-hitter, performed well with Team USA in the Olympics, and would be worth targeting in fantasy leagues as a sleeper if he wins the starting job in center field out of spring training. Scott Podsednik and Carlos Gonzalez are also expected to see time in center this spring.
