September 9, 2009

Dexter Fowler has been activated off of the 15-day disabled list.

Our View:

He is not in the Rockies' starting lineup on Wednesday night, however. Carlos Gonzalez could continue to get the bulk of the starts there.

September 4, 2009

Accoring to MLBlogs.com, Rockies' outfielder Dexter Fowler is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday with Double-A Tulsa. Fowler is eligible to return from the DL on Wednesday.

Our View:

It looks like Fowler will be ready to return when eligible, as he should spend just a few games with the Double-A squad. Fowler is expected to jump right back into his starting center field job as the Rockies try to hold onto the Wild Card lead.

September 3, 2009

Dexter Fowler looked good running in the outfield on Thursday, according to MLBlogs.com.

Our View:

Fowler is eligible to come off the disabled list next Wednesday, and will ramp up his "baseball activities" this weekend in an effort to be ready for that date. He will likely retake his center field position immediately.

August 25, 2009

Dexter Fowler has been placed on the 15-day DL with a deep bone bruise on his right knee, according to the Denver Post. Fowler injured himself Monday night when he fouled a ball off the knee.

Our View:

This is not good for the Rockies, who are trying to hold on to a four game lead in the Wild Card race. Fowler has 26 stolen bases this season and was hitting .270 at the time of the injury.

August 25, 2009

Dexter Fowler could miss a few games after fouling a ball off his right knee on Monday night, according to the Denver Post.

Our View:

This leaves the Rockies outfield uncomfortably thin for the next few days, as Carlos Gonzalez is also out with a lacerated hand. With the Rox now sporting a four-game lead in the wild card race, however, the injuries are at least coming at a manageable time.

August 11, 2009

Dexter Fowler is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his left knee after slamming it into the outfield wall making a catch on Monday night, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

The team believes it is just a bruise, but wants to make sure. He is considered day-to-day.

August 6, 2009

Dexter Fowler went 2-for-4 with a double and scored the Rockies' only run in a 3-1 loss to the Phillies on Thursday.

Our View:

Fowler has started the last three games after being benched in favor of Seth Smith, and responded nicely with five hits (including three doubles) in his last 12 at-bats.

August 2, 2009

Dexter Fowler tripled in the go-ahead run in the 11th inning of Sunday's 6-4 win over the Reds.

Our View:

Fowler, who came in as a replacement for Seth Smith, finished the game 1-for-2 and scored the Rockies' insurance run as well. Fowler hasn't seen a lot of playing time lately after hitting Just .250 in July, but delivered in a big way on Sunday.

April 28, 2009

According to the Denver Post, Dexter Fowler has earned the everyday starting job for the Rockies in center field.

Our View:

This is no doubt a result of his recent play and blinding speed at the top of the order (nine steals this season). Fowler is also batting .302 with an .884 OPS and plays exceptional defense. His numbers made Manager Clint Hurdle's decision very easy. Fowler is a great option in NL-only leagues and is even a nice average/steals option in mixed leagues.

April 27, 2009

Rookie Dexter Fowler was 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs scored, and two walks in Colorado's 12-7 win over the Padres on Monday.

Our View:

Fowler's batting average is up to .302 and he now has nine stolen bases on the season. He figures to get the large majority of the starts in center field for the Rockies and it looks like he should pay off handsomely for the fantasy owners who invested in him. It's an encouraging sign that he has drawn eight walks against his eight strikeouts in his first 16 games.

April 12, 2009

Dexter Fowler started in center field for the third time in five days in the Rockies 7-5 loss to Philadelphia. The rookie went 2-for-5 and hit his second home run of the season. His solo shot came in the second inning against a struggling Chan Ho Park.

Our View:

It seems like Fowler should see plenty of opportunities this season, and he has the potential to be a big time fantasy producer as he has a mouth-watering mix of speed and power.

April 8, 2009

Rookie Dexter Fowler made the start in center field as the Rockies defeated the Diamondbacks 9-2 on Wednesday. He went 1-for-4 with a walk, a home run, an RBI, two runs scored, and a strike out.

Our View:

Fowler is perhaps the brightest spot in the Rockies organization. He is currently their fourth outfielder, but if he continues to produce like this, he will likely push his way into an everyday job. Seth Smith and Ryan Spilborghs are both in danger of losing some playing time.

April 1, 2009

Dexter Fowler was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored on Wednesday.

Our View:

A day after being named to the big club Fowler turned it on. It may take him a bit to develop, but be patient. He has loads of upside and is a great pick for keeper leagues. You can get him super cheap.

March 31, 2009

Updating a previous report Dexter Fowler has made the Rockies' big league club, according to MLB.com. He will be slated in the outfield.

Our View:

Fowler has huge upside. He now joins Troy Tulowitzki as the other member of the Rockies who skipped Triple-A. Fowler hit .335 with nine home runs, 31 doubles and nine triples last year in Double-A. He could be a nice sleeper candidate in NL-only leagues.

March 25, 2009

It seemed like Dexter Fowler was going to be headed to Triple-A as the center fielder of the future but according to MLB.com, Fowler is in the running to make the Rockies club.

Our View:

He has never played Triple-A and is an exciting young player, with speed and huge upside. He is hitting over .300 this spring and might be that spark that the Rockies are looking for. Stay tuned.

March 14, 2009

Dexter Fowler was 3-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, and a stolen base as the Rockies fell to the Mariners 10-5 on Saturday.

Our View:

Fowler was phenomenal at Double-A last season and continued to play well for the Olympic squad in China. He possesses loads of tools and is just 23 years old. However, word is that he would have to have an outstanding spring to start out on the major league roster. So far, he has struck out nine times in 25 at-bats and carries only a .280 batting average. He will likely be up at some point this season, but it's optimistic to think he will be the Rockies opening day center fielder.

January 30, 2009

Dexter Fowler will compete with Ryan Spilborghs for the Rockies' starting gig in center field, according to the Denver Post. Fowler has added 10 to 12 pounds of muscle in the off-season and GM Dan O'Dowd said, "I would not count out the kid. When you have young players like Dexter, you never know when they are going to pop."

Our View:

Fowler, who is a switch-hitter, performed well with Team USA in the Olympics, and would be worth targeting in fantasy leagues as a sleeper if he wins the starting job in center field out of spring training. Scott Podsednik and Carlos Gonzalez are also expected to see time in center this spring.
