According to MLB.com, A's starter Josh Outman is ready to begin rehabbing after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his left elbow a few weeks ago. Outman is not expected to be ready to return to the team until after the 2010 All-Star break.
The rehab process after Tommy John is long and tedious, but Outman should be ready to go in the second half next season. Obviously, he has no fantasy value for this year, but he could be a nice second half addition next season.
As expected, Josh Outman underwent Tommy John surgery on his ailing left elbow Tuesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
He will need 12-18 months of recovery time. This is unfortunate for the A's, as he was their top young hurler prior to going down. He held a 3.48 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP over 67.1 innings.
Josh Outman is slated to undergo surgery on his pitching elbow Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.
The A's are yet to comment on the severity of his injury, or how long he may be on the shelf - but the recovery period looks to be long.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Josh Outman has been transferred from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL as the pitcher may have to undergo Tommy John surgery.
This is a huge blow to Outman, the A's and fantasy owners as he was really coming into his own and was looking like a potential ace in the team's rotation. No decision has been made yet, but it doesn't sound like good news.
Josh Outman has been placed on the 15-day DL with his sprained left elbow, according to TSN.
Gio Gonzalez will be taking Outman's turn in the rotation tonight against the Giants. Keep Outman held out of fantasy lineups until further notice.
As expected, Josh Outman will miss his next scheduled turn in the rotation Wednesday due to tightness in his throwing arm, according to the Associated Press.
He had an MRI Monday, and will receive a more extensive test Wednesday. Skipper Bob Geren is yet to name a starting hurler for Wednesday, and the top candidates are Gio Gonzalez and Edgar Gonzalez.
Josh Outman is expected to miss his next turn in the rotation Wednesday due to his flexor-extensor strain, according to MLB.com. He said, "I do not see any way I can throw Wednesday. I have not picked up a ball since Friday."
Gio Gonzalez is believed to be the likely candidate to replace Outman Wednesday, namely as skipper Bob Geren said he is reluctant to use long-reliever Edgar Gonzalez as a spot-starter. It remains to be determined if Outman will need to spend time on the DL.
Josh Outman may need a contrast MRI exam for his flexor-extensor strain in his left elbow, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Skipper Bob Geren noted that Outman won't be able to make his next scheduled start in the rotation Wednesday if he has an MRI, due to the injection of dye needed. As of now, Outman is still listed as the starter.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Josh Outman has been diagnosed with a mild flexor-extensor strain in his pitching elbow.
Apparently he was diagnosed with this problem two starts ago and it didn't affect him until Friday night, when he exited the game in the second inning. No word on whether he's DL-bound or not, but he may have to be pushed back or miss his next start altogether.
Josh Outman exited Friday's battle with San Diego in the second inning with an undisclosed injury, according to the Associated Press.
He was replaced by Edgar Gonzalez. Further details regarding Outman's injury are yet to be disclosed.
Josh Outman was rocked for four earned runs on five hits over six innings in Saturday's 5-2 loss at San Francisco. He had no walks and fired four strikeouts.
Outman suffered his first loss of the season, and is now 4-1. He has given up three or more earned runs in three of his last four starts.
Josh Outman allowed three earned runs on four hits over six innings in Monday's 4-3 win over Minnesota at McAfee Coliseum. He had two walks and fired seven strikeouts.
Outman earned a win, and remains unbeaten at 4-0. The lefty should remain active in AL-only leagues.
Josh Outman improved to 3-0 as the A's defeated the White Sox 5-3 on Wednesday. He allowed seven hits, a walk, and two earned runs over 6.2 innings while striking out two in the game.
Outman has recorded just six total strikeouts in his three victories, which have all come in his last five outings. In his two no-decisions in that span he has 15 strikeouts. He's a flyball pitcher, which is sometimes risky, but opponents are hitting just .211 off of him this season and he's carrying a sharp 3.02 ERA.
Josh Outman had a quality outing on Friday, but didn't factor in the decision as the Rangers topped the A's 6-3. Outman allowed three runs on three hits and three walks with nine strikeouts.
Outman has been solid this season and Friday's performance posted some nice results for owners. Somehow Outman is just 2-0 though. His team can't seem to score for him and he's constantly handed no decisions despite four very good starts in a row.
Josh Outman won his second game of the season on Sunday. He allowed just one earned run on four hits and five walks over 7.2 innings as the A's trumped the Diamondbacks 6-2.
Outman has a solid start, but he walked five and didn't strike out a man, which was odd considering he was striking out almost a man per inning prior to Sunday's effort. Look for the Ks to reemerge next time around, as Outman is quickly gaining fantasy value.
Josh Outman shut down a very good Rays' lineup on Tuesday, but he did not factor into the decision in the A's 4-1 win in 11 innings. Outman went six innings and did not allow a run on three hits while walking one and striking out six.
This was Outman's best start of the season, and he didn't even get a win to show for it. It was a pitchers' duel between him and James Shields, and it took until the 11th inning before either team could score. Outman may gain some fantasy value with this start, but he needs a few more of these to be a mixed league option.
Josh Outman will start when the A's face the Rangers on Wednesday night, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Trevor Cahill has been pushed back to Saturday.
Great. Outman hasn't pitched in a week and hasn't made a start since April 17. We're sure he'll be primed to face a Rangers squad that is hitting .323 at home.
Josh Outman's next scheduled start for Friday will be skipped, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The A's were rained out Monday, and Outman is struggling with six walks and six earned runs allowed over his first 9.1 innings of work. He will now make his next start May 2 at Seattle.
Josh Outman pitched in an intrasquad game at the Athletics' minor league complex Sunday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He racked up 10 strikeouts on 95 pitches over seven innings of work.

Josh Outman will hold the fifth spot in the Athletics' rotation for the start of the season, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
He beat out Sean Gallagher for the role. Outman is worth a look for AL-only leagues, but could get bumped from the rotation when Justin Duchscherer is ready to return from elbow surgery.
The Royals lit up pitcher Josh Outman for eight hits and eight runs over 3.1 innings on Tuesday. The biggest blow was a grand slam in the second inning. "I wasn't throwing breaking balls for strikes. I was overthrowing, cutting all my pitches off," Outman tells the San Francisco Chronicle. "When all you have to rely on is your fastball, big-league hitters are going to hit it, and they did."
This outing won't help Outman's chances of making the rotation. His potential demise would help Dana Eveland, Sean Gallagher, Trevor Cahill, and Brett Anderson's chances.
Josh Outman threw four scoreless innings in relief as the A's lost to the Rangers 8-5 on Thursday. He struck out three while giving up three hits.
The southpaw has two devastating pitches - a fastball and a slider. Because he lacks any semblance of a third, he will likely be a reliever if he makes the team out of spring training. Otherwise, look for the A's to continue to try and develop a third offering while he starts the season in the minors.
Josh Outman started and threw two shutout innings as the A's tied the Brewers 3-3 on Wednesday. He allowed only one hit while striking out one batter.
Outman is an intriguing prospect, as he is a rare southpaw with mid-90s heat. However, he does not really have a third pitch at this point, and that will be something he needs to develop if he is going to be a starter. As of now, he figures to be a reliever with Oakland or start the season at Triple-A.
