According to MLB.com, Royals' shortstop Mike Aviles underwent successful Tommy John surgery on Wednesday.
Aviles will miss the entire 2009 season and the injury will likely keep him out of part of the 2010 season as well. Don't make any fantasy plans for him for a very long time.
According to the Kansas City Star, Mike Aviles will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.
Aviles looks to be out for nine to 12 months, so don't count him into your fantasy plans until around this time next year. He originally felt pain in his elbow and forearm in spring training, but battled through it until May 23rd when he landed on the DL. That may not have been the best decision though as he hit just .183 while in the lineup this season.
Mike Aviles is "nowhere close" to returning from his strained right forearm, according to the Kansas City Star.
Not that it would matter much anyway. After hitting .325 a season ago, Aviles was hitting just .183 before being shut down on June 3. One of the major fantasy busts of the season, he shouldn't be considered for an add whenever he does come back.
Mike Aviles has been shut down for two weeks due to his strained right forearm, according to MLB.com.
Inflammation is causing the discomfort in his forearm. Aviles will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Mike Aviles met with Dr. Lewis Yocum today to get a second opinion on his strained right forearm, according to the Kansas City Star.
Skipper Trey Hillman noted that Aviles has not progressed much in his recovery. We will keep you posted when the results of his second opinion are disclosed.
Mike Aviles has been placed on the 15-day DL with a strained right forearm, according to the Associated Press. The club recalled infielder Tug Hulett from Triple-A Omaha as the adjoining move.
Aviles has been a disappointment so far while coming off a solid 2008 campaign. He was hitting an anemic .183 with one homer prior to landing on the DL. Fantasy owners should manage fine while he is out.
Mike Aviles has returned to the Royals' lineup after missing four games with a strained right forearm, according to the Kansas City Star.
Aviles went 1-for-4 in his return against Cleveland Wednesday. He remains an unstable fantasy option though, as he only has three hits over his last 24 at-bats.
Mike Aviles may be ready to return to the lineup as early as tonight against Cleveland if no day-after issues arise in his strained right forearm after taking part in pregame activities Tuesday, according to the Kansas City Star.
Aviles has not played since last Friday when he revealed his ailment to the Royals, but he noted that he is feeling better and thinks he is ready to return. We will keep you posted on his status.
Mike Aviles told the Kansas City Star that he has been dealing with a sore forearm. This could explain the lack of production from Aviles this season.
Aviles has been a major disappointment so far this season, and now we may know why. If he gets healthy he could become a good fantasy option again, but right now he is a risky play even in AL-only leagues. Watch to see how his performance progresses as the season goes on.
Mike Aviles was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, two RBI, and a run scored in Kansas City's 11-3 win over Toronto on Wednesday.
Aviles has five hits, three for extra bases, in his last four games. While that may not sound like much, it has raised the struggling infielder's batting average nearly 40 points. He appears to be breaking out of his long slump that started off his season.
Mike Aviles went 2-for-3 and scored both of the Royals runs in their 2-0 win over the White Sox on Wednesday.
Aviles is trying to prove that his successful rookie season was no fluke, but he may have a difficult time living up to it as he is hitting ninth in the Royals order.
Mike Aviles was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored on Friday. He's now hitting .407 this spring.
Aviles continues to defy his critics as he continues to hit. He won't stay this hot for too long, but hope that it will carry over to the regular season. He should be a decent option at shortstop this year in mixed leagues.
Mike Aviles was 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs scored and hit his second Cactus League home run on Thursday.
The shortstop is hitting .375 and appears to be building on his strong finish in 2008. He was a big surprise last year and won't likely put up the .327 average again, but should be a solid shortstop you can get later in the draft.
Shortstop Mike Aviles went 2-for-3 with five RBI in Tuesday's win over the A's. He hit a grand slam in the second inning and is batting .333 this spring.
Aviles hit third in the lineup on Tuesday, but we expect him to be the No. 2 hole once the regular campaign begins. Experts are divided on Aviles after his big rookie season, but it goes without saying that he is worth drafting in all mixed leagues.
