Aaron Bates has been placed on the 60-day DL by the Red Sox, according to TSN.
Bates is dealing with a sprained left ankle. The 25-year-old corner infielder has some power, but does not look to push for playing time in Boston in the near future.
The Red Sox have sent first baseman Aaron Bates to Triple-A.
The Sox needed to move Bates to clear a spot for Mike Lowell, who was activated from the 15-day DL. We may see Bates again when the rosters expand, but likely not before as the Sox were just filling a hole with all their injuries.
Rookie call-up Aaron Bates made an impact for Boston in Sunday's 6-0 win over the Royals. He went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
Bates doesn't look to have much fantasy potential, despite his fine performance on Sunday. He's only up because of injuries to Mark Kotsay and Jeff Bailey and doesn't figure to stick around once the Sox get healthy.
According to the Twitter page of Red Sox' beat writer Amalie Benjamin, Boston has recalled first baseman Aaron Bates from Triple-A Pawtucket. Bates is in the lineup for Monday's game against the A's, playing first and hitting ninth.
The Sox placed Jeff Bailey on the DL, and they needed another first baseman on the roster since Mark Kotsay is hurting as well. Bates has been hitting well in the minors this season, but he doesn't figure to make any kind of fantasy splash.
Aaron Bates went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI with Double-A Portland in Wednesday's 7-2 win over New Hampshire.
The 25-year-old first baseman should remain in the minors as the Red Sox have strong depth at the corner infield spots.
