Newsbreakers

September 17, 2009

Kam Mickolio (right elbow inflammation) has been placed on the disabled list retroactive to September 7.

Our View:

He is done for 2009. In 13.2 innings this season, he posted a 2.63 ERA, while striking out 14. The O's could reserve a prominent place for him in their 2010 bullpen.

September 10, 2009

Kam Mickolio is headed back to Baltimore to have his sore arm examined by a doctor, according to the Baltimore Sun. Mickolio recently returned to the mound after dealing with a "dead arm".

Our View:

It doesn't sound good for Mickolio, and he tried to come back but the arm just wasn't ready. We won't know much until he gets evaluated by the doctor, but it seems very possible he could be done for the season. Stay tuned.

September 2, 2009

Kam Mickolio has deemed himself fit to return to the mound following his recovery from a "dead arm," according to MASN Sports.

Our View:

Mickolio felt good while doing some throwing Wednesday. He is capable of being a solid reliever if healthy, but his fantasy value is limited to leagues that feature middle men.

August 18, 2009

The Orioles have recalled pitcher Kam Mickolio from Triple-A Norfolk, according to MLB.com. Mickolio will replace Matt Albers, who was optioned by the team, on the roster.

Our View:

Mickolio has thrown 4.2 innings for the team this season and has not given up a run while compiling a WHIP of 0.86. He has also managed to strike out four, and he should be a nice upgrade to the Baltimore bullpen.

August 4, 2009

Kam Mickolio has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. The move was made to make room for phenom pitcher Brian Matusz, who will start for the Orioles on Tuesday night.

Our View:

Mickolio hadn't allowed a run in 4.2 innings over four games this season, and this move is more about the promotion of Matusz than the demotion of Mikcolio.

July 31, 2009

According to the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles have recalled Kam Mickolio from Triple-A.

Our View:

There was an open pitching spot on the roster after the George Sherrill trade, so Mickolio got the call. He'll likely have a setup role behind whoever the O's choose as their next closer, and may be a lead a candidate for the job next season if he fares well.

July 21, 2009

Kam Mickolio has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk by the Orioles, according to TSN.

Our View:

Mickolio did not allow any runs over 3.2 innings of relief, and should return to the Orioles' bullpen at some point this season. He is worth holding in deeper AL-only leagues that feature middle men.

July 6, 2009

Kam Mickolio has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk by the Orioles, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:

Mickolio held a 2-3 record and a 3.21 ERA over 27 appearances with Norfolk this season. He will not hold fantasy value outside of deeper leagues that employ middle relievers.

July 6, 2009

Kam Mickolio is expected to be recalled by the Baltimore Orioles, according to the Baltimore Sun. He will take the roster spot of Chris Ray, who is expected to be placed on the DL with arm trouble.

Our View:

Mickolio made nine appearances for the Orioles out of the bullpen last season, giving up five runs in 7.2 innings pitched. He did manage to strike out eight during that time, but he looks to have no fantasy value in any format.

March 25, 2009

Kam Mickolio has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk by the Orioles, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:

Mickolio would not have held much value if he managed to make the Orioles' roster as a middle reliever. He will serve as organizational depth in the minors.
