According to MLB.com, the Braves have optioned outfielder Gregor Blanco to Triple-A Gwinnett to make room for the activation of Greg Norton. Blanco is hitting .186 on the year.
Blanco only had 43 at-bats with the Braves before his demotion, and he had no fantasy value before the move. He could have some value down the road, but he should not be owned this season, even if he does come back up.
Contrary to earlier reports, Gregor Blanco is being called up from Triple-A Gwinnett to the Braves according to MLB.com's Mark Bowman. He will make his first start of the season in the Braves outfield Tuesday night. He is replacing Jordan Schafer on the Braves roster.
Blanco played 144 games for the Braves in 2008, but was sent down to the minors after spring training this season. After initially struggling, he has come on of late, batting .348 with an .426 on-base percentage at Triple-A Gwinnett the past two weeks. He has little power, but decent speed and could be worth a look in deeper leagues if he starts out hot.
MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that Gregor Blanco has batted .348, going 16 for 46, with an on-base percentage of .426 during the past two weeks at Triple-A Gwinnett.
Still, there has been no indication that the Braves are ready to promote Blanco, even as Jordan Schafer continues to struggle. If Blanco does eventually get called up, he might be worth a flier.
Gregor Blanco is officially being considered for the center field spot in Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. While, Josh Anderson is though of as the slight favorite, Blanco could snatch his job with a strong spring.
Blanco has been impressive in the WBC, and will have to wow the Braves from afar if he's going to bump Anderson and prospect Jordan Schafer out of his path.
Gregor Blanco went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, and an RBI as Venezuela beat USA 5-3 in the WBC on Wednesday.
Blanco's hitting .600 in the tournament with two triples and two RBI. He is mmore of a fourth outfielder, but he has a shot at winning the starting job in center field for the Braves this spring.
Gregor Blanco will compete with Jordan Schafer and Josh Anderson for the starting spot in center field with the Braves, according to MLB.com.
Blanco should be the favorite to register the most at-bats at the position. He held a .366 OPB over 430 at-bats with Atlanta in 2008, with 13 stolen bases.
