Newsbreakers

July 27, 2009

Xavier Paul (ankle) has been transferred to the 60-day DL by the Dodgers, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Paul is participating in baseball-related activities, but remains weeks away from being fit to return to the diamond.

May 28, 2009

Xavier Paul was released from the hospital after being treated for a staph infection, according to MLB.com. Paul is expected to miss several more weeks with the infection.

Our View:

This is good to hear, as staph infections can be pretty tricky. Don't expect to see Paul any time soon, but we wish him the best in his recovery.

May 23, 2009

Xavier Paul has landed in the hospital with a skin infection, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. The Dodgers placed him on the 15-day DL.

Our View:

Paul has been diagnosed with MRSA, which is a staph infection that is resistant to many antibiotics. The infection is not life-threatening. He will be on the shelf for a few weeks until he is completely healed. The Dodgers had a meeting with their players and staff regarding sanitation, namely hand-washing with anti-bacterial soaps, as a precaution.

May 7, 2009

The Dodgers called up Xavier Paul from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Paul fills the recently suspended Manny Ramirez's spot on the Dodgers' roster, and with Ramirez's expension to last 50 games, Paul's stint in the majors could be a lengthy one. Juan Pierre will fill Ramirez's starting spot in left field, but Paul will serve as the only backup at all three outfield positions and should see occasional at-bats. He does possess a decent mix of power and speed, hitting nine home runs with 17 stolen bases and a .316 batting average in Triple-A last year, so he is a guy to keep an eye on, especially in NL-only leagues, that could gain nice value if any of Los Angeles' outfielders get hurt.

April 5, 2009

The Dodgers demoted Xavier Paul to Triple-A on Sunday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Paul was solid this spring, but didn't have any real shot of making Los Angeles' Opening Day roster given the team's loaded outfield. It'll take several injuries before he'd be given a chance to see significant playing time in the bigs this season.

March 9, 2009

Xavier Paul had a great day for the Dodgers on Monday, going 3-for-5 with a double and a triple. He also drove in a pair while crossing the plate three times.

Our View:

Paul is still a bit of a long shot to make the club out of camp, but his .406 average so far this spring is turning some heads.
