September 1, 2009

The San Jose Mercury News is reporting that the Giants have recalled John Bowker, Jesus Guzman, and Waldis Joaquin from Triple-A Fresno.

Our View:

Bowker struggled in his first stint with the team this season, hitting only .182 in 33 at-bats. Guzman was even worse, going 2-for-15 in his short stint earlier this year. Joaquin has thrown exactly one inning with the Giants this season, and he allowed one run while striking out one.

John Bowker has been optioned to Triple-A Fresno to make room on the roster for Rich Aurilia.

Our View:

Bowker was hitting just .182, and won't be missed on the Giants big league roster for the rest of the season.

July 31, 2009

John Bowker has been recalled by the Giants from Triple-A Fresno, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Bowker may not be with the Giants long, as the club needs to free up a roster spot to make room for Freddy Sanchez. Bowker is only worth a look for the deepest of fantasy leagues.

July 20, 2009

John Bowker will make another start at first base in tonight's game at Atlanta, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:

Bowker has pop in his bat, but is only hitting .176 with one homer over 17 at-bats this season. He is only worth a look for deeper fantasy leagues.

July 12, 2009

John Bowker went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in Sunday's 10-4 loss to the Padres.

Our View:

Bowker has only been with the Giants for three games this season and Sunday's contest was the first time he registered a hit. He has some pop in his bat, but likely won't see enough at-bats or hold a high enough average to merit any fantasy value outside of NL-only leagues.

July 9, 2009

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants may be planning to recall first baseman John Bowker from Triple-A Fresno for Thursday's game. Bowker was pulled on Wednesday night after a first inning double, and the speculation is that he is heading back to the Giants.

Our View:

Bowker is absolutely destroying Triple-A pitching, putting up a .345 average with 17 homers and 63 RBIs. The Giants have been discussing recalling him all week, and it looks like the move will be made. He could be worth a look in NL-only leagues, and if he plays everyday he may get some mixed league value as well.

March 30, 2009

John Bowker has been optioned to Triple-A Fresno by the Giants, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:

Bowker has some pop in his bat as he hit 10 homers over 326 at-bats last season, and would be worth a look for NL-only leagues if recalled at some point during the season.

March 5, 2009

John Bowker had a rough outing Thursday, going 0-for-4 and striking out three times. He stranded three men and his average now stands at .118 this spring.

Our View:

Bowker isn't helping his cause as he's competing for the opening at first base. The Giants lineup should be anemic enough though that they'll find a place to play Bowker due to the pop in his bat... regardless of how bad he's struggling.

February 14, 2009

John Bowker is competing for the starting spot at first base, but Pablo Sandoval could hold the job if he proves to be unable to handle third base or the club adds Joe Crede, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:

Bowker has good power potential, but needs to be more effective against left-handed pitching. If he does not start at first, he could see time in the outfield.
