Newsbreakers

February 6, 2010

GM Brian Sabean does not see John Bowker competing for a role in right field, according to Henry Schulman's (San Francisco Chronicle) twitter page.

Our View:

Bowker could see action in left field, with Mark DeRosa likely to start there. He did not impress the Giants in 2009, but still has enough upside to keep tabs on as a potential flier - namely in case more playing time opens up due to injuries.

September 1, 2009

The San Jose Mercury News is reporting that the Giants have recalled John Bowker, Jesus Guzman, and Waldis Joaquin from Triple-A Fresno.

Our View:

Bowker struggled in his first stint with the team this season, hitting only .182 in 33 at-bats. Guzman was even worse, going 2-for-15 in his short stint earlier this year. Joaquin has thrown exactly one inning with the Giants this season, and he allowed one run while striking out one.

August 7, 2009

John Bowker has been optioned to Triple-A Fresno to make room on the roster for Rich Aurilia.

Our View:

Bowker was hitting just .182, and won't be missed on the Giants big league roster for the rest of the season.

July 31, 2009

John Bowker has been recalled by the Giants from Triple-A Fresno, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Bowker may not be with the Giants long, as the club needs to free up a roster spot to make room for Freddy Sanchez. Bowker is only worth a look for the deepest of fantasy leagues.

July 20, 2009

John Bowker will make another start at first base in tonight's game at Atlanta, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:

Bowker has pop in his bat, but is only hitting .176 with one homer over 17 at-bats this season. He is only worth a look for deeper fantasy leagues.
