Wilton Lopez hurled four hitless innings and racked up three strikeouts against the Scottsdale Scorpions in AFL action, according to MLB.com.
Lopez looked great and had good control of his pitches. The 26-year-old hurler could push for a roster spot with the Astros next season, but probably would be limited to a relief role.
Wilton Lopez pitched pretty well on Sunday, but he was hit with the loss as the Astros fell to the Mets 4-0. Lopez went five innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits while walking two and striking out one.
Lopez wasn't dominant today, but he gave his team a chance to win. Unfortunately, his team couldn't manage to get anything going against Mets' starter Nelson Figueroa. Lopez was 0-2 on the season with the Astros.
The Astros have recalled pitcher Wilton Lopez from the minors to replace the injured Alberto Arias, according to the Twitter page of Brian McTaggert. Lopez was claimed off waivers by the team in April.
Lopez had a 4.73 ERA this season with Corpus Christi, and he worked both as a starter and as a reliever for the team. He figures to join the bullpen in Houston, and fantasy owners shouldn't expect to hear his name much.
The Astros claimed Wilton Lopez off waivers from the Padres on Friday and optioned him to Double-A Corpus Christi, according to MLB.com.
Lopez hasn't been bad 6-5 with a 4.13 ERA through 111 relief appearances during three minor league seasons within the Padres (2007-08) and Yankees (2004) organizations and is just 25. You'd think that he'd have a chance to carve a decent role in Houston's thin pitching staff, although San Diego's staff was by no means deep either, so the fact that he couldn't make it there has to raise some question marks about his ability.
