Sam Fuld hit his first career homer and simultaneously earned his first major league RBI on Sunday. His 2-for-3 effort accounted for both Chicago runs in a 5-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Fuld finishes the season with a .299 average, but the power he displayed on Sunday was a one time showing. The homer was his only in 103 career at-bats.
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Cubs' outfielder Sam Fuld could possibly miss the rest of the season with a strained left thumb. Fuld said he could return in a week or so, but the team will likely be cautious with him.
Fuld doesn't seem to concerned with the injury, but it would make sense for the team to let him fully heal as long as they are out of the playoff hunt. Fuld hit .260 for the Cubbies this season and scored 12 runs.
According to the Arlington Heights Daily Herald, Cubs outfielder Sam Fuld underwent an MRI on his injured right thumb on Tuesday.
Fuld made a diving catch on Monday night and may have sprained the thumb in question. He was sporting a splint in the clubhouse Tuesday and may have to miss significant time. Stay tuned.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs have recalled outfielder Sam Fuld from Triple-A Iowa.
Fuld will replace the injured Reed Johnson on the roster and could see some spot starts in the outfield. He's not really worth a fantasy glance though, unless you're extremely desperate.
Sam Fuld is set to be recalled on Friday to give the Cubs some outfield depth after Reed Johnson landed on the disabled list today, according to the Arlington Daily Herald.
Fuld went 7-for-19 in limited playing time earlier this month (and one game in June). With the increase in at-bats he's likely to see with Johnson out, he could be worth a look in NL-only leagues.
Sam Fuld has been optioned back to Triple-A Iowa.
Fuld has gone 7-for-19 in the majors this season, but with the balky contracts of Alfonso Soriano, Kosuke Fukudome and Milton Bradley clogging up the Cubs outfield, he got very few opportunities to play.
The Cubs have called Sam Fuld back up to take the roster spot of the injured Geovany Soto, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Fuld had four hits in 11 at-bats during his previous call-up this season. He shouldn't get enough playing time in the Cubs' outfield, even with Alfonso Soriano and Milton Bradley struggling, to warrant any fantasy consideration.
The Cubs optioned Sam Fuld to Triple-A Iowa on Monday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
This may come as a bit of a surprise given Fuld's .364 batting average over his recent six-game stint near the top of the Cubs' lineup, but they were forced to make several moves following the DL activations of Aramis Ramirez, Reed Johnson and Angel Guzman. Expect Fuld to be one of top considerations to be called back up the next time Chicago has an available spot on the roster.
Sam Fuld went 2-for-4 with two runs scored starting in place of Alfonso Soriano, as the Cubs beat the Brewers 9-5.
Fuld is obviously not an option in any format, but Cubs fans are likely savoring the rare sight he provided Thursday: production from a North Side left fielder.
Sam Fuld has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa to take the roster spot of the injured Aaron Miles, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Fuld is batting .286 at Iowa, including .417 in his last 10 games. He has also swiped 20 bases, but isn't fantasy relevant at this time, however.
The Cubs optioned outfielder Sam Fuld to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, MLB.com reports. "He came in here relaxed, and to me he was the most improved player from one camp to another," manager Lou Piniella explains. "I told him to work a little bit on stealing bases and just keep playing and stay injury free. He's another kid who's not too far from the big leagues."
Fuld spent parts of 2007 and 2008 at Triple-A, and this move will feel like heading home. The Cubs have a crowded outfield, and it would probably take injuries to, for instance, both Reed Johnson and Joey Gathright for Fuld to come up and find ample playing time.
