Newsbreakers

September 19, 2009

MLB.com reports that the Yankees recalled right-hander Ian Kennedy from Triple-A on Saturday.

Our View:

Kennedy pitched well in Triple-A, going 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA over four starts and deserved a call-up. He'll work in long relief as a warm-up for the Arizona Fall League.

August 31, 2009

Ian Kennedy will throw batting practice Wednesday for the first time since undergoing surgery on May 12 to remove an aneurysm from below his right biceps, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Kennedy fared fine while throwing 45 pitches off the mound today. He will face live hitters Saturday and the following Tuesday if he has no issues during Wednesday's session. He is not expected to return to the Yankees this season, but intends to pitch in September's instructional league and then in the Arizona Fall League.

August 4, 2009

Ian Kennedy is progressing well in his rehab from an arm aneurysm suffered earlier this season, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Kennedy threw 25 pitches off a mound on Tuesday, and will have another session on Friday. He is not expected back this season.

June 24, 2009

According to the Journal News, Ian Kennedy started a throwing program on Tuesday in hopes to return from a surgically removed aneurysm under his right arm.

Our View:

Looks like the scary situation of the aneurysm has passed for Kennedy, but his timetable for a return this season remains a mystery. He made 25 throws from 40 feet and is hoping to parlay that progress into an eventual return this season. Still, should he make a full recovery he likely won't have any real fantasy value until 2010.

June 22, 2009

According to the Scranton Times-Tribune, Yankees' pitcher Ian Kennedy is set to rejoin the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre team this week. Kennedy is still a few weeks away from being able to pitch, but he will join the team to continue rehabbing after surgery on an aneurysm under his right arm.

Our View:

It will still be some time after the All-Star break before Kennedy is able to return, but it is a good sign that he is back with the team. His fantasy value for the rest of the season is pretty much non-existent, but after a scary situation with the aneurysm it is good to see him coming back.
