Newsbreakers

August 9, 2009

Chase Headley went 1-for-4 with a single, and recorded the Padres' lone RBI in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Mets at Petco Park.

Our View:

Headley is riding a seven-game hitting streak, and is batting .333 in August. He merits consideration for NL-only leagues while hot.

August 9, 2009

Chase Headley went 2-for-4 in the Padres' 3-1 win over the Mets on Saturday night.

Our View:

Headley doesn't offer much in the fantasy third base department, but he has been hot lately. He's hit in all but one game in August and has a .346 average for the month.

July 19, 2009

Chase Headley's pinch hit home run helped the Padres beat the Rockies 3-1 at home on Saturday.

Our View:

The home run was only his second in the month of July. He is a mediocre option in NL-only leagues, but not an option in all but the deepest of mixed formats.

July 7, 2009

Chase Headley went 2-for-3 for his second straight multi-hit game on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough as the Padres lost 4-3 in Phoenix.

Our View:

Headley has by-and-large been a disappointment in 2009, but could be a decent fill-in for your team in the outfield, especially if the Padres are on the road, where he is hitting a whopping 165 points better than at home.

June 25, 2009

Chase Headley went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer off Jarrod Washburn in Thursday's 9-3 loss at Seattle.

Our View:

The Padres had nine hits in the game, and stranded 24 men on base. Headley collected his third homer of June, and his seventh of the season.

June 11, 2009

Chase Headley was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and an RBI as the Padres defeated the Dodgers 3-1 on Wednesday. He was also caught stealing for the third time in nine attempts this season.

Our View:

Headley's 58 strikeouts to 19 walks is a strong indicator of the type of season he is having. Still, he's hitting fifth for the Padres, which has helped lead to 24 RBI.

June 6, 2009

Chase Headley went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles in Friday's 8-0 loss to the Diamondbacks at Petco Park.

Our View:

The Padres only generated four hits in the shutout loss. Headley collected his 10th multi-hit game of the season, but is still only hitting .244.

May 25, 2009

Chase Headley was 2-for-5 with a tenth inning home run, two RBI, and a run scored as the Padres defeated the Diamondbacks 9-7 in 10 innings.

Our View:

Headley has hardly been relevant even in NL-only leagues. He had just five hits in his last 41 at bats prior to Saturday's benching. He is 3-for-9 since then and has enough talent to warrant keeping an eye on him.

May 10, 2009

Chase Headley went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored as the Padres fell 12-5 to the Astros on Sunday.

Our View:

Headley looks like he has recovered from the shoulder soreness that plagued him earlier in the week. He swiped his first two bags of the season on Saturday, and if he remains aggressive on the base paths, he would greatly boost his mediocre fantasy value.

May 9, 2009

Chase Headley had a nice game on Saturday with a double, two RBI and two steals in the Padres' 5-4 loss to the Astros.

Our View:

Headley is not much of a fantasy option outside of deep NL-only leagues, but had some nice contributions on Saturday. He has four steals and 13 RBI, but is hitting just .245.

May 6, 2009

MLB.com reports that Chase Headley hopes to be ready to return to the starting lineup on Thursday. He has missed the last two games with a sore shoulder.

Our View:

Headley may be second on the Padres with 25 hits, but he's still hitting only .255 on the season. He has struck out 22 times in 98 at bats and he has mostly struggled since being called up to the Padres last summer.

May 6, 2009

Chase Headley missed Tuesday's game while dealing with a sore shoulder, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View:

Headley is day-to-day. He is not off to a solid start this season with a .255 batting average over 98 at-bats, with 22 strikeouts.

April 17, 2009

Outfielder Chase Headley went 3-for-5 with one run on Friday against the Phillies. He is 7-for-9 over the last two games and is up to .295.

Our View:

Headley got off to a slow start and still strikes out way too much, but these two nights remind us why the Padres were so high on him. He still has a lot of potential.

April 16, 2009

Chase Headley went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs against the Mets on Thursday.

Our View:

Headley was able to boost his average from .171 to .256 with the big day at the plate. While he's not the most dependable outfielder, the switch-hitter still has a decent ceiling with nice power and overall hitting potential.

April 12, 2009

Chase Headley went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a home run off of Tim Lincecum in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Giants.

Our View:

Headley came into the game hitting just .167, but four of his six hits this year have been for extra bases. The young outfielder still struggles with his plate discipline, but he still has the potential to be a solid fantasy contributor. However, this season still figures to produce some headaches that you would be better off without.

March 23, 2009

Chase Headley was 3-for-5 with a home run and two run scored against Kansas City on Monday.

Our View:

Headley figures to be the starting left fielder for the Padres this season, and his performance could be significantly more favorable to fantasy owners if he receives playing time nearly every day.

March 14, 2009

Chase Headley went 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, a run scored, and two doubles in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Giants.

Our View:

Headley had a mediocre rookie season in 2008, but he is poised to be more of a fantasy factor in 2009. He has traditionally been a very selective hitter, and his value would increase if he returns to that mindset.

March 6, 2009

Chase Headley hit a three-run home run in a losing cause Friday as the Padres lost 13-11 to the Rockies.

Our View:

With his first full season upcoming, the 24-year-old Headley will get the chance to validate the fan fare that has surrounded him in San Diego. He is expected to land the starting left field position.

January 26, 2009

Chase Headley is likely to start in left field on opening day if Kevin Kouzmanoff is ready to serve at third base, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Headley is naturally a third baseman.

Our View:

Headley struck out 104 times over 331 at-bats last season, but his OBP wasn't terrible at .337. He is expected to hold a starting job, and is worth targeting as a flier in deeper leagues.
