Newsbreakers

September 25, 2009

Max Scherzer gave up three earned runs on five hits over five innings in Friday's 4-0 loss to the Padres at Chase Field. He had three walks with six strikeouts.

Our View:

Scherzer had a decent outing, but was handed a loss due to no run support. He is 0-3 over his last four starts.

September 22, 2009

The Arizona Republic is reporting that D-Backs' starter Max Scherzer will make his final start of the season on Friday. Scherzer is 9-10 with a 4.08 ERA for the team this season.

Our View:

The D-Backs want to limit the innings for their young hurler this season, and there is no reason to keep throwing him out there at this point. He has struck out 168 in 165.1 innings pitched this season, and Scherzer still looks like a future star in the making.

September 19, 2009

Max Scherzer got knocked around by the Rockies on Saturday. He allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and five walks over just 5.1 innings. He fanned six, but allowed two homers and was handed his tenth loss of the season.

Our View:

Scherzer hasn't been bad this month, even with Saturday's dud of an outing. He's 1-2, but his ERA stands at 3.12 over his last four starts.

September 13, 2009

Max Scherzer was very good for six innings on Sunday against the Brewers. He gave up a solo shot to Prince Fielder, but was only touched for three hits, two walks and the one earned run overall. He avoided the loss, but the Diamondbacks fell 5-3 as the bullpen crumbled.

Our View:

Scherzer is having a pretty good sophomore campaign and has impressed with his ability to strike hitters out. He has fanned 162 in 160 innings this season. Five Brewers fell to him via strikeout on Sunday.

September 7, 2009

Max Scherzer was tagged for four earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Monday's 7-2 loss to the Dodgers at Chase Field. He had one walk with three strikeouts, and gave up three homers.

Our View:

Scherzer had a tough outing on the hill, and falls to 9-9 for the season. He was a disappointment after only allowing one earned run over 7.2 innings in his previous start against Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium.
