Neil Walker will rejoin Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday after rehabbing with rookie leauge Bradenton, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Walker missed five weeks with a dislocated pinky. He was hitting just .239 before the injury, and likely won't see any time in the big leagues this season except for a potential September call-up when teams can expand their major league rosters.
Top Pirates prospect Neil Walker will miss 3-5 weeks after dislocating his pinky finger in a game at Triple-A Indianapolis according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Walker was expected to compete with Andy LaRoche for the Pirates starting third base job this season, but has been somewhat of a disappointment. He is hitting just .239 at Triple-A Indianapolis. He is still probably a candidate for a late season call up, however.
The Pirates expect Neil Walker to push Andy LaRoche for the starting spot at third base, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
There are some that believe Walker is not as ready offensively, though. The Pirates will likely decide to stick with LaRoche as he was part of the Jason Bay trade.
