October 28, 2009

According to MetsBlog.com, outfielder Fernando Martinez has started running the bases and plans to play in the Dominican Winter League starting in November. Martinez had surgery on his right knee in late September.

Our View:

This is a pretty quick turn-around after knee surgery, but Fernandez says he is feeling good and looking forward to playing the in Dominican next month. Assuming he is completely recovered, the Mets have to be thrilled that their young outfielder will play this winter.

September 28, 2009

Fernando Martinez has been transferred to the 60-day DL by the Mets, according to TSN.

Our View:

Martinez is recovering from surgery on his right knee. He has potential to develop into a good outfielder for the Mets, assuming he can make a full recovery.

July 16, 2009

Fernando Martinez had right knee surgery on Tuesday, and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, according to Newsday.

Our View:

F-Mart will be out until at least mid-August. Since he was hitting just .188 at the time of the injury, he probably won't be worth an add for the stretch run in non-keeper leagues.

July 9, 2009

MetsBlog.com is reporting that the New York Mets have placed outfielder Fernando Martinez on the 15-day DL with inflammation in his right knee. In a corresponding move, the team has recalled Argenis Reyes from Triple-A Buffalo.

Our View:

Martinez has been struggling with his knee for a few days, and the team finally decided it was time to put him on the DL. His fantasy value is low right now, but he figures to be a solid fantasy contributor down the road.

July 6, 2009

Fernando Martinez is having his sore right knee examined today, according to SNY.

Our View:

F-Mart is just the latest Met to get hurt. It isn't thought to be overly serious, but the Mets probably aren't in a hurry to get him back anyways. The heralded rookie is batting just .176 in 29 games this season, and could be sent back to Triple-A Buffalo once he is healthy. He is not a viable fantasy option in any format except keeper leagues at this point.

July 5, 2009

According to the New York Post, Mets' rookie outfielder Fernando Martinez is out indefinitely with pain in his right knee. He was a late scratch Friday, and it is unclear at this point when he will be able to return.

Our View:

F-Mart has been struggling, hitting only .176 this season in 29 games, and this is just another in the long list of Mets to be bitten by the injury bug. He has very little fantasy value, but once he figures it out at this level he can be a very good player.

June 28, 2009

Fernando Martinez had a hand in both Mets' runs on Sunday as they fell to the Yankees 4-2. Martinez went 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI in the game.

Our View:

F-Mart has been a bit of a disappointment in his stint with the Mets this year, but everyone needs to remember that he is still young and probably not ready for this level quite yet. He has major talent, but he has no fantasy value at this time. He is one to watch for future fantasy seasons, however.

June 22, 2009

Fernando Martinez has been recalled by the Mets from Triple-A Buffalo.

Our View:

Martinez will see action in the Mets' outfield with Carlos Beltran bound for the DL, but Martinez is only worth a look for NL-only leagues, as he holds a poor .194 average (with no homers) over 62 at-bats in the bigs this season.

June 19, 2009

Fernando Martinez has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo to make room on the roster for Nick Evans, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:

The much ballyhooed prospect was hitting just .194 in 62 at-bats with the Mets this season. He will probably be a productive fantasy player at some point, but now is not that time.

June 4, 2009

According to Newsday, Mets manager Jerry Manuel said Fernando Martinez needs to start hitting or risk demotion to the minor leagues.

Our View:

Martinez is batting only .174 and would probably benefit from some more seasoning in the minors.

May 31, 2009

Fernando Martinez led the way for the Mets' offense on Sunday in their 3-2 win over the Marlins. Martinez went 1-for-3 with a run scored and and RBI.

Our View:

The rookie has struggled a bit since being called up, but he got the job done today. He is still an excellent prospect and he should develop into a solid fantasy option if he keeps playing every day.

May 26, 2009

According to the Newark Star-Ledger, the Mets have recalled outfield prospect Fernando Martinez from Triple-A.

Our View:

Martinez is the top prospect in the Mets' system and will have a chance to make an instant impact with Ryan Church on the DL and Carlos Beltran out with a knee injury. He is a fine NL-only option as he went .291, 8, 28 at Triple-A this season.

March 6, 2009

Fernando Martinez is limited to hitting due to his elbow strain, according to the NY Daily News. Team doctors advised him to wait another week before throwing.

Our View:

The Mets' prized prospect is not expected to make the opening day roster, and does not garner fantasy attention. The club should remain cautious with him, going by his poor track record with durability in the minors.

February 18, 2009

Fernando Martinez expects to be cleared to resume baseball activities in around two weeks following his recovery from a strained right elbow, according to the NY Daily News. He will be cleared to hit, but not throw.

Our View:

Martinez is not expected to make the Mets' opening day roster, and needs to take it easy as he has a poor track record with durability in the minors.

February 9, 2009

Fernando Martinez will be on the shelf for three weeks while recovering from a strained right elbow, according to MetsBlog.com. At that point, he will begin a throwing program.

Our View:

He is believed to only need a few days of rest, but the Mets are being very cautious with their prized outfield prospect. Either way, he is not likely to make the club out of spring training.

February 5, 2009

Fernando Martinez is leaving the Caribbean World Series and returning to New York with a sore right elbow, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Martinez is a big time prospect and this injury could hurt the start of the season. Martinez is down playing the injury so stay tuned to this situation.

January 14, 2009

Fernando Martinez has been dropped from Leones del Caracas of the Venezuelan Winter League, according to El Universal. Leones President Luis Avila said, "Martinez is a great player, but unfortunately he couldn’t hit as we hoped. We informed him of our decision yesterday and he took it in a very professional way."

Our View:

Martinez still remains a prized prospect with the Mets, and the club previously denied the speculation that he was on their trading block.
