Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is reporting that the Twins have traded speedy outfielder Carlos Gomez to the Brewers in exchange for shortstop J.J. Hardy.
Part of the Johan Santana deal, Gomez is a defensive whiz, as well, but hit just .248 in his two seasons in Minnesota. His arrival almost certainly spells the end of the Mike Cameron era, and the beginning of the Alcides Escobar one.
Carlos Gomez left Friday's game in the seventh inning after fouling a ball off his leg, according to MLB.com. Gomez has been diagnosed with a bruised calf.
Gomez should be fine, although he is probably a little sore today. It is just a bruise, so he should return to the lineup soon, possibly even today.
Carlos Gomez led the Twins offensively in tonight's 10-1 win at Cleveland, as he went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. He hit a single, double and a three-run homer off Jensen Lewis.
Gomez ended a 14-game drought without a homer, and registered multiple hits in a game for the first time since July 18, when he went 2-for-4 at Texas.
Carlos Gomez provided all of the offense for the Twins on Sunday in their 3-2 loss to the Cubs. Gomez went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI.
Gomez has struggled for much of this season, but he looked very good at the plate today. His speed makes him an asset when he can get on base, but his .227 average isn't good enough to merit fantasy consideration in mixed leagues.
Carlos Gomez received two stitches in his head after getting caught in a revolving door while entering the HHH Metrodome this morning, according to the Star Tribune.
He was able to start in center field against Boston, and looks to be fine.
Carlos Gomez will return to the Twins for Friday's game against the Royals, according to MLB.com. His wife gave birth to a son on Wednesday morning.
Gomez should be fine to pencil back into fantasy lineups for Friday. Hopefully he will find his swing, as he is hitting .195 over 41 at-bats, with 11 strikeouts.
MLB.com reports that Carlos Gomez will fly to Florida on Tuesday to be with his wife for the birth of his child.
Gomez has played himself out of the starting lineup with a .195 average and 11 strikeouts in 41 at bats. He holds no fantasy value.
Carlos Gomez went 3-for-3 with an RBI in the Twins 3-1 win over the Angels on Sunday. He was caught stealing on his only attempt.
The 23-year-old is not starting regularly and he is now just 2-for-4 on his stolen base opportunities. Despite the good showing today, he is hitting just .200. If Gomez is not stealing three or four bases per week, he shouldn't be rostered.
Carlos Gomez was 1-for-2 with a walk, a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored in Saturday's 9-5 loss to the Marlins.
Gomez is having a nice spring, as he already has three home runs in 24 at-bats. He is just 23, and he should reclaim the leadoff spot this season in Minnesota. Whether he hits first or ninth, he should still be a solid fourth outfielder and maybe more. Given a full-time job, he should be a lock to steal 30 bases.
Carlos Gomez went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 2-0 win over Baltimore.
Gomez collected his second homer of the spring, and his power may be developing sooner than anticipated. He is worth targeting as a solid source for stolen bases, but until he learns to cut down on his swing (142 K, only 25 BB) his value will be somewhat limited.
