Filling in for the sick Josh Johnson on Sunday, Chris Volstad allowed three runs in four innings, as the Marlins lost 4-0 to the Mets at home.
Emergency or not, Volstad's Sunday start was the sixth time in his last seven outings that he failed to pitch five innings. The lanky righty has much to prove if he hopes to land a spot in the Marlins' 2010 rotation.
Chris Volstad is expected to throw a simulated game on Saturday, according to the
Volstad lost his last start earlier this week, and he has had a 2009 to forget. It seems unlikely that he will get another start this season, but even if he does he should not be considered for fantasy play.
Chris Volstad struggled in his return to the rotation on Sunday against the Nationals. He allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits and five walks over just three innings and took the loss as the Fish fell 7-2.
Volstad was demoted due to poor performance after his August 28th start, and it doesn't look like Sunday's effort is going to give him any job security. Don't be surprised if he gets bumped from the rotation again after allowing ten base runners over just three frames.
Chris Volstad is slated to start Sunday's game against the Nationals, according to
His status in the Marlins' rotation could depend on how he fares in his favorable match-up with Washington. Volstad is not worth consideration for fantasy lineups until he proves he can be an effective hurler.
Chris Volstad has been recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.
Volstad was demoted after a disastrous August in which he posted a 9.77 ERA in five starts. Don't spot start him should the Marlins give him the privilege.
