Newsbreakers

November 6, 2009

Cameron Maybin will undergo surgery Monday to repair a partially-torn left labrum, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Our View:

Maybin experienced pain during the season, but it was not severe enough to force him out of the lineup. He is expected to be recovered in time for spring training.

August 6, 2009

According to the Miami Herald, Cameron Maybin has sat out his last four games in Triple-A New Orleans with a sore back.

Our View:

Maybin doesn't seem to be DL bound and is currently considered day-to-day. The highly touted prospect should be back in the lineup soon and will likely return to the big club when the rosters expand in September.

June 8, 2009

Cameron Maybin dislocated his pinky finger while playing in a Triple-A game in Memphis yesterday according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Our View:

Maybin was sent to Triple-A New Orleans on May 10 and has hit .277 with one home run since the demotion. The injury will likely set back any potential return to the major leagues by at least a few weeks. If he does return, he could be worth a look in deeper leagues if he gets playing time.

May 10, 2009

The Palm Beach Post reports that Cameron Maybin was sent to Triple-A after Sunday's game. He had been benched for the weekend series in Colorado. John Koronka could be called up to start Tuesday's game.

Our View:

Maybin is hitting just .202 through his first 23 games and he had lost his starting job. The 22-year-old needs to be getting at bats, and he's not doing that in the majors. We expect him to get the call back to the Marlins at some point later in the season.

May 10, 2009

The Miami Herald is reporting that Cameron Maybin will be on the bench for the third straight game, as Chris Coghlan is starting in the outfield on Sunday.

Our View:

Maybin has struggled mightily so far in 2009, and the preseason front-runner for National League Rookie of the Year looks far from it so far. If Coghlan starts out hot, Maybin may be spending even more time on the bench, so Maybin owners need to monitor this situation.
