Newsbreakers

August 5, 2009

The Detroit Free Press reports that the Tigers have optioned catcher Dusty Ryan to Triple-A.

Our View:

Ryan got just 25 at-bats while with the Tigers and merely added depth behind the plate. He hit just .160 with zero home runs.

July 28, 2009

Dusty Ryan went 1-for-3 with two RBI on Tuesday in the Tigers' 7-3 loss to the Rangers. Ryan is hitting .182 on the season.

Our View:

The .182 average is all you need to know about Ryan, who gets a limited number of at-bats with the team. The production out of him tonight was nice, but don't expect much more this season.

June 19, 2009

According to the Associated Press, the Tigers have recalled catcher Dusty Ryan from Triple-A Toledo. Ryan was hitting .259 with seven homers and 23 RBI in 46 games with the Mud Hens.

Our View:

Ryan holds no fantasy value, as he will just provide depth for the Tigers' at catcher. He showed some power in his limited major league at-bats last season, but don't expect him to play enough to contribute.

March 21, 2009

Dusty Ryan has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo by the Tigers, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:

The move means that Gerald Laird will start the season as the Tigers' No. 1 catcher, with Matt Treanor the primary backup. Ryan would be recalled if either player is injured.

September 17, 2008

Rookie Dusty Ryan was 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI on Wednesday against the Texas Rangers. A September call-up, this has been his best game in six starts.

Our View:

Dusty Ryan is improving his bid to be the Tigers' No. 2 catcher for 2009. Ryan has displayed a strong arm and a consistency at the plate.
