Newsbreakers

September 12, 2009

Jayson Nix went 1-for-2 with a solo homer off Joe Saunders in Friday's 7-1 loss at the Angels.

Our View:

The Sox only had five hits in the game, and Nix was their lone source of scoring. He recorded a hit in four straight games.

August 28, 2009

Jayson Nix led the White Sox with three hits on Friday, but they fell to the Yankees walk-off style in the tenth inning.

Our View:

Nix is hitting .265 this month, which matches his high for a month this season. That should tell you something about his fantasy status. His average is up to a whopping .239.

August 25, 2009

Jayson Nix was productive in tonight's 6-3 loss at Boston, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. He hit a single and a solo homer off Jon Lester.

Our View:

Nix was in need of a solid outing, as he only had one hit over his previous four games (13 at-bats). He will move back into a reserve role when Chris Getz is ready to come off the DL.

August 15, 2009

Jayson Nix led the Sox offensively in Saturday's 8-1 win at Oakland, as he went 1-for-3 with three RBI and a two-run homer off Gio Gonzalez.

Our View:

Nix enjoyed a strong outing, and is worth a look for AL-only leagues while starting at second base in place of the injured Chris Getz.

August 6, 2009

Jayson Nix went 1-for-3 with a home run, a run scored, and three RBI in the White Sox' 9-5 loss to the Angels on Thursday afternoon. Nix has eight home runs on the season.

Our View:

Nix got the Sox back in the game with his three-run homer in the second inning, but the pitching wasn't nearly good enough tonight. Nix has shown the ability to hit for power, but his .229 average hurts any fantasy value he could have.

July 7, 2009

Jayson Nix is slated to start at second base for tonight's home game against the Indians, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

Nix gets the call against opposing lefty hurler Jeremy Sowers. He is only hitting .171 over 35 at-bats at U.S. Cellular Field though, and is only worth consideration for deeper fantasy leagues.

June 24, 2009

Jayson Nix is slated to start tonight's home game against the Dodgers at second base, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

The club is facing opposing lefty Randy Wolf, and Chris Getz will be riding the pine. Catcher A. J. Pierzynski is the only lefty in Chicago's lineup.

June 2, 2009

Jayson Nix will make his second straight start at second base in tonight's home game against Oakland, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

Chris Getz is out while nursing his foot injury. Nix does not have a hit over his last seven at-bats, and is only hitting .067 at hitter-friendly U.S. Cellular Field. Nix should not be employed in fantasy lineups.

May 27, 2009

Jayson Nix is back in the White Sox' lineup on Wednesday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Nix hit two home runs last night, so the White Sox have him at third base tonight. Josh Fields will sit to make room for Nix.

Our View:

Nix deserved the start after his two bombs last night, but unless he hits two homers every night you shouldn't expect him to see enough at-bats to me a fantasy contributor. He is a utility player for the Sox, so it would probably take an injury to get him an everyday job.

May 27, 2009

Jayson Nix had a big night for the White Sox on Tuesday as Chicago downed the Angels 4-2. Nix went 2-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored, and two RBI in the game.

Our View:

Nix isn't a great player by any means, but his two home runs tonight were very impressive. His fantasy value is still nonexistent, but it was a nice show he put on tonight.

May 18, 2009

Jayson Nix will start in left field for today's game against Toronto, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

He replaces the ailing Carlos Quentin. Scott Podsednik will roam center field with Dye at his usual spot in right. Nix will be making his first start in left field.

May 15, 2009

Jayson Nix is penciled into Chicago's starting lineup at third base for tonight's game against the Blue Jays, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

Josh Fields will ride the pine to rest his sore wrist. Nix has a hit in each of his last two outings, and holds a .300 average for the season. He is worth consideration for AL-only leagues.

May 8, 2009

Jayson Nix will make another start at shortstop in place of the struggling Alexei Ramirez tonight against the Rangers at U.S. Cellular Field, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

Nix has a hit in each of his three appearances this season, and is worth consideration for AL-only leagues tonight. Opposing hurler Matt Harrison has a 6.41 ERA for the season.

May 7, 2009

Jayson Nix filled in at shortstop for the struggling Alexei Ramirez on Thursday and came through. He finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run as the White Sox won 5-0.

Our View:

Nix does not figure to stay in the starting lineup for long, but he looks like he has what it takes to be a major league utility man. Alas, he has no fantasy value unless an injury opens up an everyday job.

May 6, 2009

Jayson Nix will start at shortstop for tonight's game against the Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

He replaces the struggling Alexei Ramirez. Nix is hitting 3-for-7 (.429) over two games this season, and is worth consideration for AL-only leagues if you have him on your roster.

May 4, 2009

Jayson Nix draws the start at third base for Monday's game, according to the Chicago Tribune. Josh Fields is unavailable due to a sore wrist.

Our View:

Nix went 2-for-3 in his first game of the season on Sunday. He is better known for his glove than his bat, and his reserve utility infielder status makes him currently unworthy of a fantasy role.

May 1, 2009

Jayson Nix has been activated from the 15-day DL, according to the Chicago Tribune. He has been recovering from a quadriceps ailment.

Our View:

Nix displayed some power in the minors, but failed to make an impact with the Rockies, and is not expected to hold much fantasy value while serving as a backup infielder in Chicago.

March 30, 2009

Jayson Nix (strained quad) has been placed on the 15-day DL by the White Sox, according to the Chicago Tribune. The move is retroactive to March 17.

Our View:

Nix had a shot to start at second base until his bid was compromised by his quad ailment.

March 17, 2009

Jayson Nix re-injured his strained quad Tuesday and was pulled from the game, according to the Chicago Tribune. He is considered day to day.

Our View:

Nix was having a decent spring and was competing for the starting job at second base, but this nagging injury could derail his chances.

March 11, 2009

Jayson Nix should be able to return from his quad injury as soon as Friday, according to the Daily Herald.

Our View:

Nix is competing for the job at second base, and he had been hitting well prior to the injury. He is certainly in the mix for an opening day starter's job, but it seems unlikely he will make a significant fantasy impact this season.
