Newsbreakers

October 28, 2009

Ben Francisco will make the start in left field for the Phillies in Game 1 of the World Series. Francisco will hit seventh in the order while Raul Ibanez serves as the DH.

Our View:

Francisco figures to see a few starts while the games are in New York, as the team would rather have his glove in the outfield instead of Ibanez. He will be hitting against former teammate Cliff Lee tonight, so he shouldn't be surprised by anything Lee has to offer.

August 11, 2009

Ben Francisco went just 1-for-5 on Tuesday, but made his one hit count, hitting the game winning homer in the 12th innings, as the Phillies won 4-3 at Wrigley Field.

Our View:

It was his second home run as a member of the Phillies. Francisco, however, will continue to get very limited playing time in Philadelphia's star-studded outfield.

August 7, 2009

Newest Phillie Ben Francisco went 1-for-4 with two RBI on Friday night, but those would be the only runs the Phils would get off Ricky Nolasco and the Marlins, as they lost 3-2 at home.

Our View:

Francisco has played very sparingly for the Phillies so far, and figures to mostly pinch-hit.

July 29, 2009

According to FOXSports.com, Ben Francisco and Cliff Lee have been sent to the Phillies in exchange for pitchers Jason Knapp, Carlos Carrasco and prospects.

Our View:

The Phillies needed another right-handed hitting outfielder, so it was nice that the Indians threw Francisco into the mix, but Cliff Lee is what they were truly after. With Philadelphia's three starting outfielders all making the All Star team this season, Francisco won't see much playing time.

July 19, 2009

Ben Francisco hit his seventh home run of the season on Sunday, but Cleveland still lost 5-3 to the Mariners at home.

Our View:

Francisco is a fringe option at best in AL-only formats, and not an option in any mixed formats.

July 4, 2009

Ben Francisco went 3-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBIs as the Indians beat Oakland 5-2 on the Fourth of July.

Our View:

Francisco does not play enough, or produce enough when he does, to warrant serious fantasy consideration in any format.

May 27, 2009

Ben Francisco had a huge night for the Indians on Wednesday in their 12-7 win over the Rays. Francisco went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, and four RBI.

Our View:

Francisco would be an excellent fantasy player if he could face Andy Sonnanstine every night, as he has absolutely torched the Rays pitcher over his career. Francisco is an astounding 8-for-9 with a double, five home runs, and 12 RBI in his career against the Rays starter. Since he doesn't face Sonnanstine every time out, his fantasy value is fairly nonexistent as he is not an everyday player.

May 17, 2009

Ben Francisco went 2-for-3 with two home runs, four RBI, two runs scored, and a walk as the Indians fell to the Rays 7-5 on Sunday.

Our View:

Francisco still finds himself hitting ninth, and he had not gone deep since April 28. He has started just two of the last five games, and may continue to lose more time to David Dellucci and Matt LaPorta.

May 5, 2009

Ben Francisco went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a steal in the loss to the Blue Jays Tuesday.

Our View:

Francisco has been picking it up lately, hitting .333 with three steals over his last six games. With Matt LaPorta now around, he'll have to keep it up.

April 12, 2009

Ben Francisco is not in the Indians' lineup for today's home game against Toronto, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:

Trevor Clowe will start in left field in his place. Francisco is 3-for-18 so far this season, with five strikeouts.

April 1, 2009

Ben Francisco was brilliant at the plate on Wednesday going 5-for-6 with a home run, four RBI and four runs scored. He's now hitting .364 this spring.

Our View:

The Indians starting left fielder has shown some pop (15 homers and 32 doubles last season), and could be poised for a big year. If he gets a full season of at-bats in him he's a 20+ home run candidate.
