The Blue Jays have signed Lance Broadway to a minor league contract, according to USA Today.
Broadway was regarded as an excellent prospect when he was drafted in 2005 but has done little since. He'll have a tough time making Toronto's roster.
Lance Broadway has been called up to replace the injured Oliver Perez on the roster, according to the Twitter page of Newsday's David Lennon. Broadway has been working as a starter with the team's Triple-A club in Buffalo.
Broadway was 5-7 with a 6.27 ERA in his 84.2 innings with Buffalo, so there is no reason to think he will be able to be successful at the major league level this season. He had been working as a long reliever with the White Sox earlier this season, and he should be in trouble regardless of which role he serves in New York.
The AP reports that right-hander Lance Broadway has been traded to the Mets in return for catcher Ramon Castro and cash. He has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.
Broadway has made eight appearances for the White Sox this season and carries a 5.06 ERA and an 0-1 record. He has done most of his work as a long reliever. The Mets will likely try and develop the 25-year-old as a starter.
Lance Broadway has been optioned to Triple-A Charlotte by the White Sox, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Broadway was not contending for a rotation spot, and would not have held much fantasy value if he made the opening day roster as a reliever. He held a poor 1.79 WHIP over 14 innings in 2008.
