Newsbreakers

October 25, 2009

Jacoby Ellsbury could be moved to left field in 2010, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:

Ellsbury is an average defender, at best, in center field, and he could have a much larger defensive impact on the game in the tiny left field at Fenway Park. Whether or not Jason Bay returns to Boston will obviously affect this. Stay tuned.

October 10, 2009

Jacoby Ellsbury went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored the only run for the Red Sox in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Angels. Boston now trails 2-0 in the ALDS.

Our View:

Ellsbury was the only Boston position player to record multiple hits in the game and his triple gave the Sox a very brief 1-0 lead. But Jared Weaver proved too much for the rest of the lineup and Boston fell short.

October 4, 2009

Jacoby Ellsbury went 1-for-3 with a run scored and stole his 70th base of the season in Boston's 12-7 win over the Indians on Sunday.

Our View:

The Boston speedster leads the majors with his 70 steals and will take home the title this year. Carl Crawford is still playing, but should be no threat as he's stuck at 60. Ellsbury also finishes the season with a .301 average and 94 runs scored, making him one of the league's best leadoff men.

October 1, 2009

Jacoby Ellsbury went 3-for-5 and stole his 68th base on Thursday, helping the Red Sox to a 3-0 win over the Indians at home.

Our View:

His 68 stolen bases lead the major leagues, and, of course, are a big reason why he will be a great fantasy option in the outfield in 2010.

September 20, 2009

Jacoby Ellsbury had a big day at the plate on Sunday in the Red Sox's 9-3 win over the Orioles. Ellsbury went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI.

Our View:

Ellsbury isn't much of a power threat, so anytime he goes deep is a nice added bonus for fantasy owners. His average is over .300, and he hasn't slowed down at all this season as he has 62 steals.
