Newsbreakers

September 19, 2009

According to The Sports Network, the Orioles have reinstated outfielder Lou Montanez from the 60-day disabled list.

Our View:

Montanez went on the DL at the end of May due to torn ligaments in his right thumb, but was hitting just .204 with six homers before the injury. With Nolan Reimold on the DL, the O's needed another outfielder, so he gets the nod.

September 8, 2009

Lou Montanez has been transferred to the 60-day DL by the Orioles, according to TSN.

Our View:

Montanez has been recovering from right thumb surgery. He only hit .204 over 49 at-bats with Baltimore this season.

May 26, 2009

MASNsports.com is reporting that Lou Montanez underwent successful surgery to reattach two ligaments in his right thumb. He is expected to be out until mid-Spetember.

Our View:

The good news is that the surgery was a success. The bad news is that Montanez will be out for most of the season. The O's aren't going anywhere in that division, but it still hurts when you lose anyone who can contribute at the major league level.

May 26, 2009

Lou Montanez has been officially placed on the 15-day DL, according to the Baltimore Sun. He will have surgery to repair torn ligaments in his right thumb today.

Our View:

He will need 6-8 weeks of recovery time. He did not play enough as a reserve outfielder to be missed in fantasy leagues.

May 23, 2009

Lou Montanez is expected to undergo surgery and be sidelined six-to-eight weeks after an MRI yesterday revealed two torn ligaments in his right thumb, according to MASN Sports.

Our View:

Montanez did not receive enough playing time to gain fantasy relevance regardless and should be out the next two months.
