Yunel Escobar went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the Braves 3-1 win over the Mets on Tuesday.

Our View:

Escobar is having a fine season, hitting .301 with 14 homers and 71 RBI. He's slipped a bit in September though, hitting .263. The first month since April that he failed to hit over .300.

Our View:

August 31, 2009

Escobar raised his batting average to .306, and has multiple hits in three of his last five games. He continues to lead the Braves with 68 runs scored.

August 22, 2009

Yunel Escobar went 2-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBI in the Braves' 4-3 win over the Marlins on Saturday.

Our View:

Escobar has been dealing with injury issues this month, but he looked pretty healthy tonight. He has 12 homers to go along with his .304 average, and he can be a nice fantasy player as long as he is in the lineup.

August 1, 2009

Shortstop Yunel Escobar (wrist) is out again on Saturday, and Diory Hernandez is starting in his place.

Our View:

This news isn't surprising, but we hope to have a positive update on Escobar soon. He remains day-to-day.

August 1, 2009

Shortstop Yunel Escobar (wrist) remained out on Friday. The Braves hope he can take batting practice on Saturday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Our View:

We're betting that Escobar will be out again on Saturday, even if he is able to swing a bat before the game. Diory Hernandez has been filling in for him.

July 30, 2009

Updating an earlier report, Yunel Escobar's X-ray on his wrist came back negative, according to Mark Bowman's twitter page. He suffered the injury in the second inning of tonight's game at Florida.

Our View:

Escobar is considered day-to-day. Fantasy owners should be pleased that his injury appears to be minor.

July 30, 2009

Yunel Escobar exited tonight's game at Florida in the second inning with a possible wrist injury after being struck by a pitch.

Our View:

Diory Hernandez replaced him at shortstop. Escobar's injury status is yet to be updated.

July 23, 2009

Yunel Escobar's solo home run accounted for the Braves' only tally in their 5-1 loss to the Giants on Thursday. He was 1-for-3 on the day.

Our View:

Escobar has now homered in back to back games and has four since July 16th, raising his season total to 11. The red hot shortstop is also hitting a whopping .396 in July and starting to look like the fantasy player pundits have been calling for.

July 22, 2009

Yunel Escobar's three run bomb helped send Tim Lincecum home early on Wednesday night, and powered the Braves to a 4-2 victory at home.

Our View:

Yunel has been punishing the ball of late, and is now batting .308 on the season. He continues to make blunders in the field and on the basepaths, but is finally starting to live up to his potential as one of the best offensive shortstops in the National League.

July 20, 2009

Yunel Escobar has been named the NL Player of the Week, according to MLB.com. He earned the honor by hitting two homers last week, to go along with a .500 batting average (7-for-14) and eight RBI.

Our View:

This marks Escobar's first weekly award. He raised his season average to .303, and should remain a solid contributor among fantasy shortstops.

July 19, 2009

Yunel Escobar had a huge night for the Braves on Sunday in their 7-1 win over the Mets. Escobar went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a run scored, and four RBI in the victory.

Our View:

Escobar isn't usually a guy who has many four RBI games, but he took advantage of a pitching injury to the Mets tonight. Escobar is hitting .303 for the season, and his nine home runs and 52 RBI both represent excellent production from the shortstop position.

July 16, 2009

Yunel Escobar went 1-for-3 with a home run on Thursday as the Braves beat Oliver Perez and the Mets at home 5-3.

Our View:

Yunel has only eight home runs on the season, but is batting a healthy .294 and has now driven in 45 runs. He is a solid option at shortstop in every format.

July 15, 2009

The Braves are apparently listening to offers for Yunel Escobar again, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:

After talk that he had been available for much of the season, the Braves were thought to have cooled on moving their talented young shortstop, but that is apparently not the case. It still seems unlikely, as he is putting up good numbers, and not eligible for arbitration until after 2010, but he has been in and out of manager Bobby Cox's doghouse, so anything is possible. He is a good option at shortstop in every format, whether he's traded or not.

July 6, 2009

The Royals apparently "covet" shortstop Yunel Escobar, according to Carroll Rogers the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:

He says the Royals couldn't land him for just Mark Teahen, though. Escobar has fallen out of favor with Atlanta despite his immense abilities, and could benefit from a change of scenery.

June 30, 2009

Yunel Escobar was held out of tonight's lineup against the Phillies, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Escobar is dealing with a hip injury. Manager Bobby Cox is uncertain of Escobar's status beyond tonight.

June 25, 2009

Yunel Escobar drove in three runs on Thursday, but the Yankees dispatched the Braves 11-7 in Atlanta.

Our View:

Escobar is having a solid year despite being in manager Bobby Cox's doghouse. In 62 games, he's driven in 39 runs on seven home runs while batting .292.

June 22, 2009

Yunel Escobar is out of Monday's lineup against the Cubs while nursing a strained right hip flexor, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Escobar missed six games in May with the same ailment. He is day-to-day, but the Braves are hopeful he will be ready to return Tuesday. Diory Hernandez is covering shortstop in his absence tonight.

June 21, 2009

Yunel Escobar went 3-for-5 with a run scored in the Braves' 6-5 loss to the Red Sox on Sunday. The performance raised his average to .292 on the season.

Our View:

Escobar is quietly making strides as a solid fantasy shortstop this season. He had a monster May, hitting .319 with 17 RBI and 47 total bases, and now has eight hits in his last five games.

June 17, 2009

Yunel Escobar was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored in the Braves 4-3 loss to the Reds.

Our View:

This was a good rebound game for Escobar who was benched in the fourth inning after two errors in yesterday's game. The Cuban is hitting .291 with 35 RBI and 36 runs scored on the season.

June 15, 2009

Braves manager Bobby Cox benched Yunel Escobar in the fourth inning of Sunday's game against the Orioles after the shortstop made two miscues earlier in the game that lead to four Baltimore runs according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View:

Escobar failed to turn a double play in the first inning and failed to execute a rundown in the second. He is batting .293 with six home runs and 33 RBIs in 2009, but his boneheaded defensive play has cost the Braves a number of runs. Cox is sending a not so subtle message with this benching. Hopefully for Escobar's fantasy owners, it doesn't turn into a prolonged one.

June 9, 2009

Yunel Escobar led the Braves offensively in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Pirates at Turner Field, as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI. All three of his hits were singles.

Our View:

Escobar has a four-game hitting streak, with eight hits and four RBI over the span. Keep him active in fantasy lineups while he is hot.

May 30, 2009

In his return to the lineup Yunel Escobar went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 10-6 win over the Diamondbacks.

Our View:

Escobar missed almost a week with a strained hip flexor, but is back in the lineup and he's raking. He has his average up to .297 after struggling early and has five homers and 24 RBI to boot.

May 27, 2009

MLB.com, reports that Yunel Escobar was held out of his fifth straight game on Wednesday.

Our View:

Escobar is dealing with a strained right hip flexor that has affected his swing and his lateral movement. The Braves thought he might be ready to go tonight, but it appears he's still a few days away. Diory Hernandez will continue to play short in his stead until Escobar is in game shape.

May 26, 2009

Yunel Escobar missed his third straight game Monday while recovering from a strained right hip flexor, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:

Escobar remains listed as day-to-day. Diory Hernandez has been filling in at shortstop in his absence.

May 25, 2009

Yunel Escobar was held out of Sunday's game while still recovering from a strained right hip, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Escobar missed his second straight start. He should remain held out of fantasy lineups until further notice. Diory Hernandez replaced him at shortstop yesterday.

May 23, 2009

Yunel Escobar was scratched from Atlanta's lineup on Saturday due to a strained right hip flexor, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. Escobar is being listed as day-to-day.

Our View:

Diory Hernandez will fill in at shortstop until Escobar is ready to play. You might want to think about sitting Escobar if you have another option off the bench as you set your lineup for next week, as Escobar may miss a game or two before he returns.

May 21, 2009

Yunel Escobar went 2-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and three RBI in the Braves' 12-4 win over the Rockies. Escobar is hitting .308 on the year.

Our View:

Escobar isn't much of a power threat, but he is a solid hitter and a decent middle infield option in NL-only leagues. He may be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues, but there are probably better options out there for the most part.

May 5, 2009

Yunel Escobar had three hits and an RBI in five trips to the plate on Tuesday, but the Braves fell regardless to the Mets 4-3.

Our View:

Escobar boosted his average to .308 on the season and knocked in his 13th RBI. Not bad numbers, but fantasy owners are still looking for more from the promising young shortstop.

April 25, 2009

Yunel Escobar had a big day on Saturday as he hit his second home run of the year while also slapping two other hits as he knocked in four runs for the Braves.

Our View:

Escobar pushed his average up to .286 with the outing which also included three runs. Perhaps this outing will be the start of a run that will lead to the type of production we were hoping to see from Escobar when the season began.

April 20, 2009

Yunel Escobar returned to Atlanta's lineup on Monday after missing the past three games with a strained abdominal muscle, going 0-for-4 at the plate.

Our View:

While he wasn't able to produce offensively, the good news was that he was able to make it through the game unharmed. He remains a decent option in the middle infield batting at the top of Atlanta's lineup that probably should be owned in all leagues that aren't particularly shallow.

April 20, 2009

The AP is reporting that Yunel Escobar is expected to be in the Braves' lineup on Monday against the Nationals. Escobar has been out since Thursday, when he left the game with a strained abdominal muscle.

Our View:

The Braves were cautious with Escobar, so it looks as if he is truly ready to go. Feel free to put him back in your lineup, as he has been playing well so far this season, hitting .343 with one home run and five RBI.

April 16, 2009

Yunel Escobar, who left Thursday's game following the fifth inning after straining his abdominal muscle, think he'll be able to play Friday, although manager Bobby Cox expects to be without Escobar's services for three or four games, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

We'll go ahead and consider Escobar day-to-day for now, though it is clearly Cox who will have the final say regarding whether or not Escobar will be in Atlanta's lineup. Escobar has gotten off to a nice start, though it would be advisable to bench him until it's been fully confirmed that he'll play. Expect Omar Infante to fill at shortstop until Escobar returns.

April 16, 2009

Yunel Escobar left Thursday's game against the Marlins in the sixth inning with a strained abdominal muscle. He was replaced at shortstop by Omar Infante, who had been playing third base. Martin Prado entered the game to take over at the hot corner. Hw will be re-evaluated tomorrow.

Our View:

For now, the shortstop is considered day-to-day, but it's unclear if the injury will force him to miss any time.

April 11, 2009

Yunel Escobar was 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in the Braves' 6-5 win over the helpless Nationals on Friday.

Our View:

Escobar is a solid fantasy shortstop in mixed leagues and should generate some decent offense at the top of the Braves' lineup. He didn't really give owners what they were looking for last year, but he still has plenty of time to improve.

April 1, 2009

Yunel Escobar went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored as the Braves leadoff hitter in their 9-3 win over the Tigers on Wednesday.

Our View:

Escobar also made his fifth error of the spring, which has to be a concern for Bobby Cox and the Braves. He is not currently in danger of losing his job, but if the lack of defense continues, Omar Infante may be called upon to step in.
