Luis Hernandez has been designated for assignment by the Royals, according to the Kansas City Star. Hernandez hit .204 in 49 at-bats with the team this season.
Unfortunately for Hernandez, someone had to be moved to make room for Ryan Freel. Hernandez is still an above average fielder, but he proved he is not ready to hit at this level.
Luis Hernandez is expected to receive some time at shortstop with Mike Aviles being out, according to MLBlogs.com. Hernandez is a strong defensive infielder, but he is not much of a hitter.
Hernandez is flashy with the glove, but his lack of hitting skills will keep him from being fantasy relevant. If he shines in the field, expect him to see more time. Don't expect him to be any kind of threat with the bat, however.
Luis Hernandez has been recalled by the Royals from Triple-A Omaha, according to TSN. The club placed shortstop Tony Pena Jr. on the 15-day DL as the adjoining move.
Hernandez could get some at-bats as a switch-hitter, and is solid defensively, but is not expected to be fantasy-worthy during his stint with the club.
