Virgil Vasquez has been designated for assignment by the Pirates, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He was assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Vasquez split the 2009 campaign between the Pirates and Triple-A. He held a 2-5 record and a 5.84 ERA over 14 appearances with Pittsburgh, seven as a starter. He was 7-4 with a 3.93 ERA over 19 outings (all starts) for Indianapolis.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that the Pirates have recalled pitcher Virgil Vasquez and infielder Neil Walker. Vasquez has seen time with the team this season, and Walker was also a September call-up last year.
Vasquez could see some time in the rotation when Ross Ohlendorf and Kevin Hart reach their innings limit, and Walker could also see some time on the infield. Neither should be able to help a fantasy team, but they should both get a chance to show what they can do.
The Pirates have optioned Virgil Vasquez down to Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
No surprise here, as Vazquez was 2-5 with a 6.09 ERA and 1.79 WHIP. Middle reliever Steven Jackson has been called up to take his roster spot, while newly acquired Kevin Hart will fill his spot in the starting rotation.
Virgil Vasquez gave up three earned runs on nine hits over five innings in Saturday's 11-6 win over the Nationals at PNC Park. He had two walks and two strikeouts.
Vasquez did not have a solid performance, but the Pirates scored enough runs for him to improve his record to 2-5. He was coming off a five-game losing streak with a 1.72 WHIP, and should continue to be ignored in fantasy leagues.
Virgil Vasquez was dreadful on Sunday, allowing four runs in only three innings of work, as the Pirates got routed 9-0 in Arizona.
Vasquez now has a 1.72 WHIP and 6.21 ERA, and is fantasy poison for the time being.
Virgil Vasquez gave the Pirates a chance to win on Tuesday, allowing just two runs in six innings, but those would end up being the only two runs scored all night, as Milwaukee shutout the Bucs.
Vasquez has now lost four straight starts after winning his first major league game on June 26.
Virgil Vasquez lasted just an inning and a third on Sunday after allowing five runs on four hits and three walks. He took the loss as the Phillies topped the Pirates 5-2.
Vasquez was miserable in this one and suffered though his shortest outing of the season. The big blow was a grand slam by Pedro Feliz in the first and his day was virtually done after that. He's a risky fantasy play in any format.
Virgil Vasquez was mediocre against Houston on Monday, giving up four runs off seven hits and three walks while striking out two in six innings.
Vazquez has been alright in three starts since joining Pittsburgh's starting rotation, but he's still no more than a spot-starter in NL-only leagues whose starting gig in Pittsburgh is far from secure.
Virgil Vasquez was decent on Wednesday, giving up three earned runs in six innings of work, but it wasn't enough as the Pirates lost 4-1 at home to the Cubs.
Vasquez has now gone six innings in both of his starts, and surrendered just five total runs. If you are desperate for a spot starter the next time he is going, he could be worth a try.
Virgil Vasquez only allowed two earned runs on four hits over six innings in Friday's 5-3 win over the Royals at PNC Park. He had two walks and fired seven strikeouts.
He fared well in his first start of the season, and is worth targeting in NL-only leagues if you need help at the position. Struggling hurler Ian Snell has been dropped from the rotation, giving Vasquez a chance to stick around if he continues to pitch like he did tonight.
Virgil Vasquez has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and will start for the Pirates on Friday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Vasquez was 5-2 with a 4.18 ERA in 14 starts for Indianapolis this season. He is starting for Charlie Morton whose start has been pushed to Sunday. He is not a good spot-starting option at this time.
Virgil Vasquez looked good Thursday, piling up three scoreless innings without walking a batter. He allowed only two hits and earned the victory.
Vasquez is still not expected to crack the Pirates' rotation, strong start not withstanding.
Virgil Vasquez threw around 35 pitches off a mound in a bullpen session Wednesday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He had been dealing with tenderness.
He is expected to provide depth for the Pirates' farm system, and should not garner fantasy attention.
The Pirates have claimed Virgil Vasquez off waivers from the Padres, according to MLB.com.
He will compete for a roster spot out of spring training, but is likely to start the season at Triple-A. The club feels he can develop into a starter in the majors down the road, or at least a capable reliever. As for now, he provides needed depth for their farm system.
Virgil Vasquez was designated for assignment by the Padres on Wednesday, according to the San Diego Tribune. This move was made to make room on the 40-man roster for newly signed backup catcher Henry Blanco and comes just 12 days after the club claimed him off of waivers from the Red Sox.
Vasquez is highly unlikely to have any fantasy value, now that he's off of the 40-man. He has not played in a major league game since 2007.
The AP reports that the Padres have claimed right-hander Virgil Vasquez off of waivers from the Red Sox.
In 27 starts for the Tigers’ Triple-A Toledo affiliate in 2008, he went 12-12 with a 4.81 ERA. He will likely be invited to spring training, but he should be considered a longshot to make the Major League roster by Opening Day.
