Newsbreakers

December 10, 2009

The Dodgers have denied a Japanese team from purchasing Eric Stults' contract, according to Dylan Hernandez's (Los Angeles Times) twitter page.

Our View:

Stults has failed to perform up to expectations so far with the Dodgers, but the club is apparently not quite ready to give up on him.

August 11, 2009

Eric Stults has been optioned back to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Our View:

He was sent down so the club could bring up Charlie Haeger as a potential long man for Wednesday, and could be back with the big club soon. In ten starts this season, the 29-year-old righty has gone 4-3 with a 4.86 ERA.

August 9, 2009

Eric Stults gave up three earned runs on five hits over five innings in Sunday's 8-2 loss to the Braves at Dodger Stadium. He had one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View:

Stults is winless over his last four starts, and allowed three or more earned runs in each outing over the span. He is only an option for NL-only leagues right now.

August 9, 2009

Eric Stults has been recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Our View:

Stults will start on Sunday for the Dodgers. He could stick in the rotation, so monitor him today.

July 1, 2009

Eric Stults has been activated from the DL following his recovery from a sprained left thumb, according to TSN.

Our View:

He was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. He could rejoin the Dodgers' rotation if he fares well over a few starts in the minors, and shall remain stashed on fantasy rosters.

June 30, 2009

Eric Stults was pain-free a day after his minor league rehab start with Single-A Inland Empire, according to MLB.com. He has been recovering from a sprained left thumb.

Our View:

Stults believes his next rehab start will be with Triple-A Albuquerque. His thumb feels good, and the hardest part of his rehab is behind him.

June 22, 2009

Eric Stults, out since May 31 with a sprained left thumb, still isn't ready to begin a minor league rehab assignment, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Stults was excellent for the Dodgers this season before injuring the thumb, posting a 4-1 record and 3.58 ERA in six starts. He got roughed up in three subsequent starts pitching hurt, though, and it is unknown when he might finally be back. Just in case you have been, there is no need to keep him on your roster.

May 31, 2009

The Dodgers placed Eric Stults on the 15-day DL with a sprained right thumb on Sunday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Stults had really struggled his past two outings. With Hiroki Kuroda returning from the DL on Monday and Eric Milton looking effective, Stults could have a tough time regaining his spot in the Dodgers' starting rotation once he returns to full health.

May 30, 2009

Eric Stults surrendered four earned runs on six hits over a mere three innings of work in Saturday's 7-0 loss at Chicago. He had two walks with three strikeouts.

Our View:

Stults has given up four earned runs in each of his last two outings, and 11 earned runs over his last three. He is worth holding out of fantasy lineups until he gets back on track.

May 30, 2009

Eric Stults will make his start against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday despite a bruised thumb, according to MLB.com. The start may be his last as Hiroki Kuroda is set to be activated from the DL.

Our View:

Stults was pretty awful in his last start as he walked seven hitters in 4.1 innings against the Rockies. He does not figure to be a very good option today at Wrigley Field.

May 25, 2009

Eric Stults is not 100 percent while dealing with a sprained left thumb, but he is still going to start today's game at Colorado, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

He feels soreness, but can still pitch fine. He is worth employing in deeper fantasy lineups, but will have a tough assignment at launching pad Coors Field.

May 20, 2009

Eric Stults has been scratched for Wednesday's start against the Mets due to a sprained left thumb, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

The team did not speculate how many starts Stults may miss beyond today. Jeff Weaver will replace him in the rotation against New York.

May 19, 2009

Eric Stults is questionable for Wednesday's start against the Mets due to soreness in his left thumb, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View:

Jeff Weaver will replace Stults if unable to go. Stults is 4-1 over seven starts, despite a barely passable 1.41 WHIP.

May 17, 2009

Eric Stults did not throw his scheduled bullpen session today while nursing a sprained left thumb, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

He will try to throw Monday, and is hopeful of making his next scheduled start Wednesday. Stults noted that his thumb is feeling better today than yesterday. Jeff Weaver will be a candidate to replace him if needed.

May 15, 2009

Eric Stults did not factor into the decision on Friday as the Dodgers beat the Marlins 6-4. Stults went five innings and allowed three runs on five hits while walking two and striking out five.

Our View:

Stults was coming off his best start of the year, and he was ok tonight. He has been decent this season and should be owned in NL-only fomats for sure. He may have some value in deeper mixed leagues as well.

May 9, 2009

Eric Stults pitched an absolute gem on Sunday against the Giants. He took a no hitter into the fifth inning and ended up with a four-hit complete game shutout. He struck out five and did not walk a man as the Dodgers cruised to an 8-0 win.

Our View:

This is the first time Stults has gone more than 5.2 innings in a game this season. Looks like he should try it more often. He's now 4-1 on the season and is gaining more and more consideration for mixed leagues. If he can go deeper consistently he'll be a valuable fantasy commodity.

April 30, 2009

Eric Stults surrendered five runs on seven hits and two walks as the Dodgers fell 9-4 to the Giants on Wednesday. He struck out just one hitter in 2.2 innings and took his first loss of the season.

Our View:

Stults has yet to get past 5.1 innings in four starts and his stat lines have looked worse in each outing. The 29-year-old southpaw is losing fantasy value fast.

April 11, 2009

Eric Stults shined in his first start throwing 5.1 innings of one-run ball and scattering four hits and one walk. He struck out five in the Dodgers' 11-2 win over Arizona.

Our View:

Stults is filling in while Hiroki Kuroda spends some time on the DL, but he may not be going anywhere if he keeps pitching like this. He impressed last year, so he has the ability to crack a mediocre Dodgers' staff.

April 10, 2009

According to the LA Daily News, Eric Stults will receive the start on Saturday in place of the injured Hiroki Kuroda. He will be recalled from Triple-A.

Our View:

Stults was very impressive in seven starts last season, but after a miserable spring was demoted to Triple-A. This is his big break and only chance to stick with the big club. If he fails to impress, he'll likely head back down when Kuroda returns.

April 5, 2009

The Dodgers optioned Eric Stults to Triple-A on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View:

Stults entered spring as a candidate for the No. 5 spot in Los Angeles' rotation after being mostly effective in seven starts last season but was unable to take advantage of the opportunity, logging just four strikeouts compared to eight walks while compiling a 9.49 ERA in 12.1 innings this spring. James McDonald eventually won the job, and Stults will have to really impress in the minors if he wants to be given a chance to get called up to start any time this season.
