Long-reliever Edward Mujica could make it through just 4.2 innings on Wednesday, surrendering two runs in a no-decision. The Padres would go on to beat the Diamondbacks 6-5 in ten innings.
Mujica did strike out five in just his second start of the season, however, and coupled with a scoreless four inning spot-start against the Rockies from last Friday, he could be considered for the Pads' 2010 rotation.
MLB.com reports that long-reliever Edward Mujica will start against the Rockies on Friday to give the rotation extra rest.
The Padres are saying that they may hold Mujica to 60 pitches on Friday, so unless he's extremely efficient, he won't last very long. That make him a pass in NL-only leagues. He's 3-4 with a 3.51 ERA on the season and will be followed in the rotation by Tim Stauffer and Clayton Richard respectively.
Edward Mujica left Sunday's game after the fourth inning with a contusion on the back of his right knee. Mujica took a comebacker from Albert Pujols to the back of the knee.
Mujica looked like he was in a good amount of pain, but it shouldn't be anything structural. Expect him to be fine in a few days.
Edward Mujica will not make his scheduled start on Saturday. The Padres will instead turn to Clayton Richard, one of the pieces acquired in the Jake Peavy trade. Mujica, who tossed 4.1 scoreless innings on Friday, will move back to the bullpen.
The Padres may still try to turn Mujica into a starter down the road. He leads the Padres in holds (11), but the team has moved on with other setup options, namely Mike Adams and Luke Gregerson.
Edward Mujica will replace the struggling Josh Geer in the Padres rotation, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Mujica has pitched well out of the Padres bullpen this season, but has apparently not started a game at any level since 2004. For now, don't take a flier on him.
MLB.com reports that the Indians have traded pitcher Edward Mujica to the Padres for a player to be named later and cash considerations.
Mujica has had a very rough go of it this spring as he has posted an 8.10 ERA over nine appearances. He is out of options and was not able to earn a spot in Cleveland's bullpen. It looks as if the Padres are ready to offer him a spot in theirs, but he has zero fantasy value.
Edward Mujica took the loss on Wednesday after a rough outing. He allowed four runs on three hits and one walk.
Mujica made 33 relief appearances for the Indians last year after being called up in late May. He posted an unimpressive 6.75 ERA to go with a 3-2 record.
