Shawn Riggans has been recalled from his rehab assignment, and was optioned to Triple-A Durham, according to TSN. He has been recovering from a shoulder injury.
The 29-year-old catcher is a career .208 hitter in the majors, and holds no fantasy value while providing organizational depth in the minors.
According to the St. Petersburg Times, Shawn Riggans will miss another month after a setback in his rehab start for a sore shoulder.
Riggans won't need surgery, but he needs to rest for three weeks to see if the inflammation subsides. He has been out since April 10th and likely won't return until at least mid-June.
According to the Tampa Tribune, catcher Shawn Riggans experienced a setback in his shoulder rehab and won't be available for quite some time. There is no timetable for his return.
Riggans was originally hoping to be back on Sunday, but after leaving yesterday's game with shoulder stiffness the problem looks to be much bigger than the team had expected. Riggans has been held to just four at-bats all year.
Shawn Riggans has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Rays, according to the Associated Press. He is dealing with right shoulder tendinitis. The club purchased the contract of catcher Michel Hernandez from Triple-A Durham as the adjoining move.
The DL move is retroactice to April 10. Riggans hit a homer in his only game this season, but his fantasy value is limited as a backup catcher.
