Newsbreakers

July 5, 2009

Jason Bergmann has been recalled by the Nationals from Triple-A Syracuse, according to TSN. Pitcher Jesus Colome was designated for assignment to make room on the roster.

Our View:

He was brought in to work out of the bullpen and not in the rotation, and his fantasy value is limited to NL-only leagues that feature middle men. He holds a poor 6.91 ERA over 14.1 innings this season.

June 16, 2009

According to the Miami Herald, the Nationals have optioned pitcher Jason Bergmann to Triple-A Syracuse to make room for the activation of Kip Wells. Bergmann is 0-1 with a 6.91 ERA in 14 games with the Nats this season.

Our View:

Bergmann held no fantasy value as a below-average middle reliever, so this move should not send fantasy owners rushing to the waiver wire. Bergmann has never been great as a major leaguer, and he is not worth fantasy consideration in any league.

May 20, 2009

Jason Bergmann has been recalled by the Nationals from Triple-A Syracuse, according to the Associated Press. Alex Cintron was designated for assignment as the corresponding move.

Our View:

Bergmann holds a career 5.02 ERA in the majors, and the 27-year-old reliever does not merit fantasy consideration, especially with the struggling Nationals.

April 29, 2009

The Nationals optioned reliever Jason Bergmann down to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Our View:

The Nationals acquired reliever Logan Kensing from the Marlins, and he will take Bergmann's spot. Given the musical chairs in that bullpen, Bergmann can expect to move between D.C. and Syracuse about six more times this season.

April 19, 2009

Jason Bergmann has been recalled by the Nationals according to the Washington Post.

Our View:

Bergmann has bounced back and forth from the starting rotation to the bullpen, but he appears destined for a relief job for now. He holds some potential but it's uncertain what his role will be at this point.

April 4, 2009

Jason Bergmann has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse by the Nationals, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View:

The 27-year-old hurler holds a 5.04 ERA over 339.1 career innings pitched in the majors, and does not merit fantasy attention while working on his skills in the minors.

March 30, 2009

Jason Bergmann tossed another perfect inning in Monday's 3-2 loss to Detroit. He has yet to allow an run in 10.1 innings of relief this spring.

Our View:

If Joel Hanrahan id not 100 percent come opening day, there's a chance Bergmann will start the year as the team's closer. He made 22 starts a season ago, but has been used exclusively in relief this spring.
