Newsbreakers

October 2, 2009

Miguel Montero is out of the Diamondbacks' lineup for their Friday afternoon game against the Cubs. John Hester will replace Montero behind the plate.

Our View:

Montero has had a very nice season for th D-Backs, but the team wants to see Hester behind the plate a bit down the stretch. The way Montero has played in the second half this season, he figures to be a fantasy starter in 2010.

September 30, 2009

Miguel Montero crushed two homers in Tuesday's loss to the Giants.

Our View:

Montero is hitting .300 with 16 homers and 59 RBI on the season, and has been one of the best offensive backstops in the game since the All Star break. Good thing Chris Snyder got hurt eh?

September 10, 2009

Miguel Montero was 3-for-3 with a home run on Wednesday, helping the Diamondbacks claw out a 4-3 win over the Dodgers at home.

Our View:

Montero has been perhaps the best offensive catcher in baseball since the All-Star break, batting .347 with nine home runs and 34 RBI. He's a definite sleeper at catcher in next year's drafts.

September 4, 2009

Miguel Montero was 1-for-3 with two RBI in the Diamondbacks' 5-4 loss to the Rockies on Friday. Montero is hitting .297 on the season.

Our View:

Montero is having a very solid second-half of the season, and he has established himself as a decent offensive threat from the catching position. He has 13 homers and 52 RBI, and he should remain a decent fantasy play as the season nears its end.

August 30, 2009

Miguel Montero is not in the team's lineup for their Sunday afternoon game against the Astros. John Hester will handle the duties behind the plate for today's game.

Our View:

Montero has been on a tear in the second half, but he will get a day off today since it is a day game. He has been an RBI machine as of late, and expect his production to continue.

August 29, 2009

Miguel Montero knocked in three more runs on Saturday night, as the Diamondbacks clobbered Houston 9-0 at home.

Our View:

Montero has now driven in 31 runs since the All-Star break, and is looking more and more like a premier offensive catcher every day.

August 28, 2009

Miguel Montero clubbed his 13th home run on Thursday night, knocking in two, as Arizona crushed Houston 14-7 at home.

Our View:

Montero has been perhaps the best offensive catcher in baseball since the All-Star break, swatting eight home runs while driving in 28 runs. He has hit .331 since the Midsummer Classic.

August 10, 2009

Miguel Montero went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in tonight's 7-4 win over the Mets at Chase Field. All three of his hits were doubles.

Our View:

Montero was in need of a solid performance, as he was 1-for-8 over his previous three games. He raised his season average to .289, and remains an option for NL-only leagues.

August 7, 2009

Miguel Montero will not be in the Diamondbacks' lineup for their Friday night game against the Nationals. Chris Snyder will be behind the plate in Montero's place tonight.

Our View:

Montero will still be getting a majority of the playing time behind the dish for the Snakes, but the team wants to get Snyder some at-bats every week. As long as Montero keeps hitting the ball, he will be in the lineup more often than not.

August 2, 2009

Miguel Montero went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Arizona's 5-2 win over the Mets on Sunday.

Our View:

The hot hitting catcher continues to show why Chris Snyder lost his job after returning from the DL. He's now hitting .290 with ten homers and 32 RBI this season and is batting over .340 since July 1st.

July 25, 2009

Miguel Montero was productive in tonight's 10-3 loss to the Pirates at Chase Field, as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View:

Montero extended his hitting streak to seven games, and is batting .373 (25-for-67) in July. Keep the catcher active in fantasy lineups while hot.

July 22, 2009

Miguel Montero's offensive explosion continued on Wednesday, as he homered for the fourth time in five games, but it wasn't enough as the Diamondbacks lost 4-3 in Colorado.

Our View:

Montero has done his best to help Arizona fans forget about Chris Snyder, and is worth of a temporary add in every format if you are struggling at catcher.

July 21, 2009

Miguel Montero hit his eighth home run of the season on Tuesday, as the Diamondbacks beat the Rockies 6-5 in Denver.

Our View:

Montero has provided a lot of offense in Chris Snyder's absence, and is a great option while the D-Backs regular catcher heals.

April 21, 2009

Miguel Montero is back in the lineup on Tuesday despite facing southpaw Franklin Morales, according to MLB.com. Montero hit a three-run home run on Monday.

Our View:

Montero figures to see very few at bats against lefties this season and Chris Snyder should be back in the lineup on Wednesday. Montero holds no fantasy value for now but he is a prospect with some potential.

March 10, 2009

Miguel Montero cranked his first homer of the spring on Monday. It was one of very few bright spots for Arizona in a 16-3 loss to the Padres.

Our View:

Montero is a big part of the Diamondbacks' depth at catcher. They have plenty of holes on their club, so dealing a catcher could help fill one if they chose to do so.

January 13, 2009

If catcher Miguel Montero were to be traded to the Red Sox, the Arizona Diamondbacks want a similar-type prospect in return, which is holding up a potential deal, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:

Montero was solid at the plate for Arizona last season, hitting just .255, but with an OBP of .330. He would be the backup to Josh Bard, meaning the end of the Jason Varitek era in Boston.

January 12, 2009

Talks between the Red Sox and Diamondbacks regarding catcher Miguel Montero are heating up, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:

Arizona is not asking for pitcher Clay Buchholz and the two clubs may be able to agree on a match. The Red Sox could still hold interest in veteran Jason Varitek if they acquire the 25-year-old Montero.

January 9, 2009

Miguel Montero is on Boston's radar, according to Peter Gammons of ESPN.

Our View:

The Red Sox will not give up pitcher Michael Bowden to acquire Montero from Arizona. Boston has already failed in their pursuit of the Dodgers' Russell Martin and the Angels' Mike Napoli.
