Jack Taschner (strained back) has left the team and is headed to its spring training complex in Florida, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
He is done for the year. He hadn't pitched since September 4. In 28.1 innings this season, he compiled a 5.08 ERA.
Jack Taschner has been optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com.
This comes three days after he was designated for assignment and went unclaimed. Taschner isn't a strong candidate to make it back to the majors this season, and should be off all fantasy radars.
According to the Twitter page of Phillies' beat writer Todd Zolecki, the Phillies have designated pitcher Jack Taschner for assignment. This move was made to make room for Friday's starter Rodrigo Lopez.
Taschner was acquired by the Phils in late March, and he didn't show enough to force the team to value him as a solid relief option. He should not be considered in any league regardless of where he ends up.
Jack Taschner was acquired by Philadelphia on Friday in exchange for catcher Ronny Paulino, according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer.
There's no reason to know Taschner in fantasy circles. The 30-year-old lefty reliever went 3-2 with a 4.88 ERA in a career-high 67 innings last season and owns a 5.01 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over his four-year career.
The Giants have avoided salary arbitration with Jack Taschner by inking the reliever to a one-year contract for $835,000, according to the Associated Press.
Taschner held a poor 1.69 WHIP over 48 innings of relief last season, and should not be considered in fantasy leagues for 2009.
