Newsbreakers

October 3, 2009

Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer in the Royals 5-4 loss to the Twins on Saturday. It was his only hit in three trips.

Our View:

Gordon has just five homers this season after an injury and a demotion to the minors marred his season. In 48 games he's hitting just .231.

September 10, 2009

Alex Gordon connected for his fourth homer of the season in the Royals 7-4 win over the Tigers on Thursday. He finished the game 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Our View:

Gordon has now played two games with the Royals since being recalled from Triple-A and is 2-for-6 with a double, a homer and two walks. Perhaps he's finding his power stroke. Too little too late though.

September 8, 2009

Alex Gordon has been recalled by the Royals from Triple-A Omaha, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Gordon missed three months following April hip surgery, and he hit .227 over 22 games before the Royals sent him down to Omaha in mid-August. He will be trying to finish the season on a high note.

August 31, 2009

The Kansas City Star is reporting that Alex Gordon missed the last two games with the Royals' Triple-A club in Omaha with a sore right shoulder. Gordon isn't expected to play on Monday, and the timetable for his return is unknown at this time.

Our View:

This has been a season to forget for Gordon, who entered the year with high expectations but who may finish the year on the bench in Triple-A. He has battled injury and struggles, but if he can get back to 100 percent he will remain a candidate to have a comeback season next year.

August 18, 2009

According to the Kansas City Star, the Royals have optioned third baseman Alex Gordon to Triple-A Omaha. In a corresponding move, the team activated reliever Kyle Farnsworth off the DL.

Our View:

This is a very strange move by the Royals, but can anything they do really be considered a surprise anymore? Gordon missed a majority of the season after surgery on his hip, and instead of giving their prized third baseman more at-bats at the major league level during a season that is already lost, they decided to send him to the minors. It's a head scratcher, but that's the Royals for you.
