The Rangers are not believed to be interested in dealing him though, as he is among their top players, and has a reasonable salary. He is also a fan favorite.

September 27, 2009

Nelson Cruz went 2-for-4 and smoked a two-run homer in the Rangers 7-6 loss to the Rays on Sunday.

Our View:

Cruz now has 33 homers and 76 RBI in his first full season in the bigs, but he's been slowed by sporadic playing time and a prolonged slump recently. The homer and multi-hit performance were his first since September 13th.

September 20, 2009

Nelson Cruz went 1-for-4 with two RBI on Sunday, but couldn't stop the Rangers from getting roughed up 10-5 by the Angels at home.

Nelson Cruz went 1-for-3 with a double in tonight's 9-0 loss to the Athletics at Rangers Ballpark.

Our View:

Cruz hit a homer in four of his last six games, and paces the Rangers with 31.

September 2, 2009

Nelson Cruz went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Jays at Rangers Ballpark. He hit two singles and a solo homer off Scott Richmond.

Our View:

Cruz crushed a homer in three of his last five games, and reached 30 for the season.

August 31, 2009

Nelson Cruz went 1-for-5 with a three-run homer off Brett Cecil in Monday's 18-10 loss to the Jays at Rangers Ballpark.

Our View:

Cruz homered in back-to-back games, and continues to lead the Rangers with 29. He should remain a strong source for power down the stretch if he can stay healthy.

August 30, 2009

Nelson Cruz went 2-for-4 and blasted a two-run homer in the Rangers' 5-3 loss to the Twins on Sunday.

Our View:

The homer was Cruz's 28th of the season and third since coming off the DL on August 20th. While the power has been there all season, Cruz is hitting just .266 in 2009 after posting a .330 mark in 31 games last season.

August 25, 2009

Nelson Cruz went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Chad Gaudin in tonight's 10-9 win at New York.

Our View:

August 20, 2009

Nelson Cruz has been activated from the 15-day DL following his recovery from a sprained left ankle, according to the Associated Press. Guillermo Moscoso was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City as the adjoining move.

Our View:

Cruz will roam in right field for tonight's game against the Twins, and should be fine to pencil back into fantasy lineups.

August 14, 2009

Nelson Cruz is bound for the 15-day DL with his sprained left ankle, according to the Dallas Morning News. Ian Kinsler will be activated from the DL as the adjoining move.

Our View:

The move will be retroactive to August 4, meaning the Rangers' home run leader can spend as few as five days on the DL.

August 13, 2009

Nelson Cruz was not in Thursday's lineup for the Rangers, but the Dallas Morning News is reporting that he is expected to play Friday for the team. Cruz will have to pass base-running tests, and if he does then he will play.

Our View:

Cruz said the ankle is at about 90 percent right now, and he really wanted to play today. He may test it out after the game, and it looks like he should be ready to play. Check back tomorrow for an update on his status.

August 12, 2009

August 10, 2009

MLB.com is reporting that Rangers' slugger Nelson Cruz still has some swelling and discoloration in his ankle, but he hopes to play on Tuesday. Cruz has been dealing with the sprained ankle since last week.

Our View:

Cruz obviously isn't at 100 percent yet, but the Rangers don't want to be forced to put him on the DL. He still thinks he will be able to play tomorrow, but owners should check back to make sure. It sounds like he will be hampered quite a bit when he does return, so you may want to give him a few days on the bench if you have a decent fill-in.

August 6, 2009

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Nelson Cruz attempted to throw before Thursday's game and felt too much pain in his sprained ankle to continue.

Our View:

This is terrible news. Cruz was slated to be a bat off the bench for the weekend series, but he can't even throw, let alone swing. The Rangers don't want to place him on the DL, but they may not have a choice. They're going to try and hold off for now, but don't be surprised if a retroactive move happens down the road.

August 6, 2009

According to the Dallas Morning News, All Star Nelson Cruz will be limited to pinch hitting duty in the Rangers weekend series against the Angels.

Our View:

Cruz has been in and out of the lineup with a sprained left ankle, but claims that after ice and treatment it feels much better. He'll be reserved to a bench role this weekend, but should avoid the DL. If he keeps improving at this rate he'll be back in the lineup early next week.

August 5, 2009

Our View:

The slugger remains day-to-day with a sprained left ankle. Keep him out of fantasy lineups until further notice.

Nelson Cruz is day-to-day after spraining his ankle in the Rangers' Monday night game against the A's, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

July 20, 2009

Nelson Cruz, who has a small fracture in his right middle finger, will miss his second-straight game on Monday, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:

Cruz remains day-to-day for the time being. He's been one of the better five-tool players in the majors this season and should be back sometime in the next few days, although it'd be best to keep him on your bench until you know for sure that he'll play.

July 19, 2009

Nelson Cruz was a late scratch on Sunday due to a small fracture in his right ring finger, according to the Dallas Morning News. The injury is not considered serious, and Cruz is available to pinch hit on Sunday night.

Our View:

A fracture to a finger never sounds good, but the Rangers don't appear to be too concerned about Cruz' injury at this point. Check back on his status for the rest of the week, but it sounds like he should be available to get back in the lineup soon.

July 18, 2009

Nelson Cruz enjoyed a strong outing in tonight's 4-1 loss to Minnesota at Rangers Ballpark, as he went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He hit a single, double and a solo homer off Scott Baker.

Cruz generated seven homers so far in July, and leads the Rangers with 23, which also currently ranks second in the AL.

July 18, 2009

Nelson Cruz will start in the DH role for tonight's home game against the Twins, according to the Dallas Morning News.

July 12, 2009

Nelson Cruz blasted his 22nd homer of the season in a 5-3 loss to Seattle on Sunday. It was his only hit in four at-bats.

Our View:

Cruz has been riding the pine recently due to the play of Andruw Jones and David Murphy. Frankly, the fact that a player of Cruz's caliber is platooning right now is ridiculous. He leads the team in home runs, has 53 RBI and swipes more than the occasional bag (13). Fantasy owners have a legit gripe with Cruz's situation.

July 11, 2009

Nelson Cruz went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer off Shawn Kelley in tonight's 6-4 win at Seattle. His other knock was a single.

Our View:

July 10, 2009

Nelson Cruz is in tonight's lineup at Seattle, according to the Dallas Morning News. He will roam in right field.

Our View:

July 10, 2009

Nelson Cruz has been named as Torii Hunter's replacement for next week's All-Star game.

Our View:

Cruz is hitting just .262, but does have 20 home runs and 50 RBI. He has also swiped 13 bags this season.

July 9, 2009

Nelson Cruz is riding the pine for tonight's game at Seattle as skipper Ron Washington is going with his hottest bats in the outfield, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Cruz has been out of the lineup for three straight games, despite co-leading the club with 20 homers. He could have worked in the DH role tonight, but Andruw Jones got the nod after swatting three homers against the Angels last night.

July 7, 2009

Nelson Cruz is out of the Rangers' lineup for tonight's game at the Angels, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:

David Murphy will roam in left field, with Josh Hamilton in center and Marlon Byrd in right. Andruw Jones will play in the DH spot. Cruz has been nursing a stiff lower back, and could use a night off to rest.

July 1, 2009

Nelson Cruz exited tonight's game against the Angels in the sixth inning with a stiff lower back, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

Julio Borbon replaced him in the outfield. The extent of Cruz's ailment is yet to be determined.

June 7, 2009

Nelson Cruz was a single shy of hitting for the cycle on Sunday in the Rangers' 6-3 win over the Red Sox. Along with his double, triple and homer, Cruz also scored three runs.

Our View:

Cruz has been beast this season and the first place Rangers wouldn't be where they are now without his bat. He has stepped in nicely for the injured Josh Hamilton to provide the team with a nice mix of power and speed. He has 17 homers along side nine steals.

June 4, 2009

Nelson Cruz continues to generate power as he went 1-for-5 with a solo homer off Chien Ming-Wang in Thursday's 8-6 loss to the Yankees. Cruz struck out three times.

May 30, 2009

Nelson Cruz went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 14-1 win over Oakland at Rangers Ballpark. His other hit was a single.

Our View:

Cruz has 14 homers, with two coming over his last three games. He raised his season average to .299 as well.

May 29, 2009

Nelson Cruz went 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and three RBI in the Rangers' 6-3 win over the A's on Friday. It was game one of a doubleheader.

Our View:

Cruz has been tattooing the ball lately. After slumping in the middle of May he has 14 hits in his last nine games and has racked up six homers, five steals and 13 RBI over that stretch. He has turned into a top-flight fantasy option in the outfield.

May 25, 2009

Nelson Cruz was 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 11-1 loss to the Yankees. The blast was his 12th of the season.

Our View:

Cruz has crushed the ball throughout his current six-game hitting streak. He has five home runs with 10 RBI during this current stretch. He also has just three strikeouts against two walks.

May 23, 2009

Nelson Cruz came up big against Houston on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI.

Our View:

Cruz got off to a great start and slumped a bit in late-April and early-May but appears to be fully back on track. He now has 11 home runs on the year and is a perfect 6-of-6 on stolen base opportunities. It looks like he could approach 30-15 this season, and you should continue to start him every day in your outfield until he gives you reason not too.

May 20, 2009

Nelson Cruz hit a solo shot on Wednesday in the Rangers' 5-3 loss to the Tigers. Cruz was 2-for-4 on the game with an RBI and a run scored.

Our View:

Many predicted a breakout year for Cruz this season, and he hasn't disappointed so far. He has shown the ability to hit for both power and average, and he is a strong play in all leagues.

May 15, 2009

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Nelson Cruz is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels. He will be replaced by Andruw Jones in right field.

Our View:

This is the second time this week that Cruz has been replaced by Jones against a lefty. Manager Ron Washington insists that there is nothing to it, but it could affect fantasy owners if Cruz starts sitting against lefties.

May 13, 2009

According to the Dallas Morning News, Nelson Cruz is out of Wednesday's lineup. He has been given a routine day off.

Our View:

Andruw Jones will take Cruz's spot in the lineup and will play right field for the first time this season. Cruz should be back in for Thursday's day game.

May 5, 2009

Nelson Cruz was huge at the plate again on Tuesday, going 3-for-5 with a homer, two runs, and two RBI. It was his seventh homer on the season.

Our View:

Cruz continues to deliver on his preseason hype, and the power numbers are for real. His value is high right now, and playing in Texas should keep his home run numbers high. He is a strong play in all leagues, and could also be a good player to try to get in a trade before he really takes off.

May 3, 2009

Nelson Cruz had a big day at the plate on Sunday. He was 3-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in Texas' 5-1 win over the White Sox.

Our View:

Cruz is now hitting .284 on the season with six homers and 18 RBI. He's in a loaded lineup in Texas and should have plenty of opportunities to drive in runners. He'll likely get a boost when Josh Hamilton returns from the DL.

April 28, 2009

Nelson Cruz is back in the lineup tonight after sitting out yesterday's game due to a scheduled day of rest.

Our View:

Cruz is having a fine start to the season, hitting .275 with six home runs and 15 RBI. He started in all of the Rangers' first 19 games and the organization felt he needed a breather. He should be good to go for a while now and you can feel safe about putting him in your lineup.

April 21, 2009

Nelson Cruz hit his sixth home run of the season as the Rangers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 on Tuesday. The two-run shot was his only hit in four at bats and he struck out twice.

Our View:

Cruz continues to look like one of the game's premier sluggers. He could very well keep up the power as he hit over 40 last season between different levels of ball.

April 15, 2009

Nelson Cruz only had two hits as the Rangers embarrassed the Orioles 19-6 on Wednesday, but he made them count. His double and grand slam totaled him six RBI.

Our View:

Cruz now has five homers and 11 RBI this season. He made a splash in a brief stint last year, but looks as though he's officially arrived in the big leagues. He should drive in plenty of runs in the Rangers' loaded lineup.

April 10, 2009

Nelson Cruz provided the one bright spot for Texas on Friday in the team's 14-2 loss against Detroit, going 2-for-4 with his third home run of the young season.

April 8, 2009

Nelson Cruz slugged two home runs and accounted for three RBI as the Rangers beat the Indians 8-5 on Wednesday. The right fielder also notched his first stolen base in the win.

Our View:

Cruz homered at a blistering pace last summer, unfortunately most of those came in the minor leagues. He has a legitimate chance to make a run at 40 home runs if everything breaks his way this summer in Texas.

March 28, 2009

Texas' Nelson Cruz went 2-for-4 and hit his sixth home run of the spring in the team's 8-5 win over the Royals.

Our View:

Cruz is immensely popular with fantasy owners, and for good reason. Along with his six home runs, he is hitting .308 and has 16 RBI on the spring.

March 24, 2009

Outfielder Nelson Cruz went 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs, and three RBI in Tuesday's tie with the Mariners. He is hitting .333 with five homers and 14 RBI this spring.

Our View:

Cruz has only appeared in 10 spring games because he played in the WBC, and he is absolutely killing the ball this month. Fantasy owners who are anticipating a breakout 2009 are likely giggling about his spring digits.

February 19, 2009

Nelson Cruz will represent the Dominican Republic in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:

He will be the regular right fielder, which should get him enough at-bats to gear up for the season opener with the Rangers. Cruz held a strong .330 batting average and .421 OBP over 31 games with Texas last season, but is not a lock for a starting gig in the outfield for 2009.
